The co-operative experiments in sugar beet culture for the past season were confined to the farmers of Sanpete and Sevier counties. They were carried on in conjunction with an organization formed by the citizens of the two counties and known as the Sanpete-Sevier Sugar Company. This association was organized at a delegate convention, held at Gunnison Feb. 17, 1899, which was composed of the representatives from all of the principal settlements in the two counties. Although the success of the Utah Sugar Co. has proved that sugar beets can be raised profitably in Utah, the farmer of the State, as well as others who are interested in the erection of sugar factories, desire a more accurate knowledge of the possibilities of the sugar beet in the various parts of the State, than can be obtained from isolated and uncontrolled tests. The Utah Experiment Station carried on, therefore, during the season of 1897, a co-operative sugar beet experiment with the farmers of Utah.
