Farm Program Flexibility Options And Sustainable Agriculture, Thomas Dobbs, David L. Becker Sep 1991

Farm Program Flexibility Options And Sustainable Agriculture, Thomas Dobbs, David L. Becker

Economics Research Reports

The phrase planting f1exibility was influential in the formation of The Food, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act of 1990 (the 1990 Farm Bill).Several planting flexibility proposals were introduced during the congressional debates leading up to the 1990 Farm Bl11. Each proposal differed in the amount of planting flexibility given to farmers and which acres to use in the calculation of farm program benefits. In this report, we will look at three of those proposals --the Normal Crop Acreage program, the Triple Base program, and the Integrated Farm Management Program Option. For purposes of our analyses, we have selected 10 case …

Review Of The Wild Oat Inflorescence And Seed: Anatomy, Development And Morphology, M. V. S. Raju, David M. Sutherland

Biology Faculty Publications

This slim volume describes a detailed study of the reproductive parts of Avena fatua, the wild oat plant-a common weed in the northern plains and the probable ancestor of the cultivated oat. The book integrates the author's own work with information from available literature and includes lengthy technical descriptions of the structure and the growth of the inflorescence, the floret, the ovule, the pollen grain, the embryo, the seed, and the young seedling. Throughout the work, the author relates the wild oat's structure and development to other grasses, other monocotyledons, and other seed plants, offering evolutionary interpretations of many of …

Distribution Of Sexual Activities Within Estrus Of Dairy Cattle, Donna Durbin Jul 1991

Distribution Of Sexual Activities Within Estrus Of Dairy Cattle, Donna Durbin

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Previous studies of dairy cattle have indicated that heifers and cows in hot, cold and moderate weather had different patterns of sexual activities. The purpose of this study was to compare distribution of sexual activities within estrus of dairy cattle. Three groups of lactating cows in hot, cold and moderate weather and a group of heifers in cold weather were observed. Estrus for each individual was divided into 12 equal periods. Sexual activities for 3 and 6 hours before and after estrus were also observed. The numbers of mounts and distribution of total sexual activities was analyzed. Mounts received per …

South Dakota Farm Real Estate Values And Rental Rates 1991, Larry Janssen, Burton Pflueger Jun 1991

South Dakota Farm Real Estate Values And Rental Rates 1991, Larry Janssen, Burton Pflueger

Economics Research Reports

South Dakota's agricultural land values increased 6.7% in 1990, paced by increases in grazing land values. Average agricultural land values (as of February 1, 1991) vary from $539 per acre in the southeast region, to $225 per acre in the central region to $89 per acre in northwest South Dakota. These are key findings from the SDSU 1991 South Dakota Farm Real Estate Market Survey reports. In each region, per acre values are highest for irrigated land, followed in descending order by non-irrigated cropland, hayland, tame pasture, and native rangeland. For each land use per acre land values are highest …
