Geographically Indications (GI) is as a niche market for countries, creates value-added and has a strong link with origin and cultural heritage. The aim of this study is to examine registered GI products that can be considered as gastronomically in Turkey in terms of regions and product groups determined by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. For this purpose, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Geographical Indications Portal (www.ci.turkpatent.gov.tr) was examined in depth, based on the descriptive scanning model. The aim of this study was to determine the oomycetous pathogens causing root roton sugar beet and test their control by seed treatment in Konya Province, Turkey. Oomycetous fungus-like pathogens of sugar beet were investigated using 866 plant samples collected at 2 growth stages, early seedling and late root, from fields in the Konya region of Turkey and 1 sample from the Thrace region. In a pilot study, a biological control with hypovirus-infected Cryphonectria parasitica was applied in 3 study plots in Turkey, in June 2013. The aim of this study was to evaluate the success of the applied biological control by verifying the establishment of the released hypovirus (CHV-1) strains using molecular markers. C. parasitica isolates were sampled from cankers at 3 different time points: before the biological control treatments (April 2013), and 5 months (October 2013) and 11 months (May 2014) after the treatment. Terrestrial orchid species are natural sources of salep and a closely related group of plant species widely distributed throughout Turkey. The phylogenetic relationship among fourteen different tuber-producing orchid species was investigated after analyzing phenotypic and genetic variation within and among the natural population through fifteen morphometric traits and ten random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) primer combinations. Statistical analyses (principal component analysis (PCA), principal coordinate analysis (PCoA), and cluster analysis) using the generated data identified taxonomic and genetic distance within the studied plant samples. Knowledge of genetic diversity could be beneficial by contributing important information in the selection of breeding material. The objective of this study was to explore the genetic diversity and relationship in the Turkish tobacco germplasm with the iPBSretrotransposons marker that emerged as a universal method. A total of 90 landraces and 6 commercial cultivars collected from different geographical regions of Turkey were used in this study. Eleven most polymorphic iPBS-retrotransposons primers yielded a total of 119 scorable bands and 98 of these bands were found to be polymorphic (82.35%), with an average of 8.91 polymorphic fragments for each primer. This study reports the presence of the summer fruit tortrix moth, Adoxophyes orana, in pome and stone fruit orchards for the first time in northwestern Turkey. Based on growers’ complaints about cosmetic damage to peach and pear fruits, pheromone traps were set up in mid-April of 2009 and 2010 to monitor the occurrence of the summer fruit tortrix moth. We conducted studies in conventional apple, pear, peach, and sweet cherry orchards in Bursa, northwestern Turkey. Moths caught in pheromone traps showed a trimodal flight pattern in all orchards. Stem rust, caused by the fungus Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici (Pgt), is one of the most important diseases limiting wheat production in Turkey. Surveys were conducted in 2007 and 2008 in order to determine the races of the pathogen present in Turkey. In 2007, it was found that 91 (43%) out of 207 inspected wheat fields were infected with stem rust, and in 2008, it was found that 61 (25%) out of 242 inspected fields were infected. In this study, the carbon stocks of forests of Turkey were examined by taking the national forest inventory completed in 2004 as a basis. Furthermore, the annual accumulations of carbon in the above- and below-ground biomass of Turkey were also investigated according to the gain-loss methods of "Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use" (AFOLU), published in 2006. The results of estimates showed that the total stock in all carbon pools (above- and below-ground, dead wood, litter, and soil) in the forests of Turkey was 2251.26 Tg C in 2004. In this study, 42 bread wheat pure lines obtained from 340 landraces, collected from 35 provinces of 7 regions in Turkey, and 7 modern bread wheat cultivars were evaluated under rainfed conditions in Konya, in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 growing seasons. Experiments were conducted in a 7 × 7 lattice design in 3 replicates. Both genotype-traits (GT) biplot analysis and path analysis were used to investigate the relationships between grain yield and 12 traits. This study was carried out to determine the impacts of climate change on aridity and land cover in Turkey. Data for future (2070s) climate change, according to present conditions (1990s), were estimated from the prediction results of a regional climate model (RCM). Orthotomicus tridentatus Eggers, 1921 (Col.: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) is the most important forest pest of cedar stands in Turkey. Yet, very little is known about its distribution and biology. Therefore, the distribution and biological characteristics of O. tridentatus were studied in the Taurus Mountains in southern Turkey between 2006 and 2008. During a survey on the occurrence of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey, a heterorhabditid species was isolated using the Galleria-baiting technique. Based on morphology and morphometrics, the isolate was identified as Heterorhabditis megidis. Sequences of the ITS region of its rDNA confirmed this identification. The species is recorded for the first time from Turkey. A more intensive survey to determine the distribution of this species, covering all parts of the Black Sea region of Turkey, is currently underway.

Leaves from 58 fig tree accessions showing different severity of mosaic and necrotic symptoms were collected in 2 different regions of Turkey and analysed by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and RT-PCR to determine putative causal agents of fig mosaic disease (FMD). Ultrastructural studies showed that double membrane-bound bodies (DMBs) were mainly observed in the parenchyma and mesophyll cells of infected leaves of the cultivars Göklop and Morgüz and some seedlings showing only mosaic symptoms. Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz (camelina) is an oilseed producing plant in the Family Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) originating from the Mediterranean to Central Asia. There is increasing interest in converting waste cooking oil and oil produced from oilseed crops, such as camelina, into biofuels in order to decrease dependence on petroleum products for fuel sources. The interest for growing oilseed crops in Utah is growing as well. Camelina sativa is a low input oilseed-producing crop adapted to climates similar to central Utah. Central Utah is also home to the Utah commercial turkey industry.

This study presents and discusses the results of a fire behavior study conducted in Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra J.F. Arnold subsp. nigra var. caramanica (Loudon) Rehder) slash. A total of 30 experimental fires were conducted over 3 years under varying weather and fuel loading conditions in aging slash. Relationships between fire behavior and fuel properties and weather conditions were determined with correlation and regression analyses. The aim was to explore 117 durum wheat (T. turgidum L. conv. durum (Desf.) MacKey) landraces from 2 regions, 5 altitude intervals, and 12 provinces for flag leaf length, width, angle, sheath length, fertile spikes, spike length and width, plant yield, percent vitreous kernel, pearling index, percent grain protein, and 1000 kernel weight. The field experiment consisted of 566 single plant selections from 117 populations with Kunduru 1149 and Kızıltan 91 controls, analyzed via descriptive and multivariate statistical methods. Regression equations were developed to estimate shrub fuel biomass of a maquis formation in western Turkey. The relationships between some shrub characteristics and live, dead, available (for consumption), and total fuel biomass were determined by simple/multiple linear regression. Measured biomass values for live, available, and total fuels varied from 0.70 to 6.74 kg m^{-2}, from 0.78 to 3.03 kg m^{-2}, and from 1.06 to 7.72 kg m^{-2}, respectively. The results obtained indicated that shrub fuel biomass could be satisfactorily predicted using the regression equations generated. Field surveys were carried out in 5 different citrus cultivation regions of Turkey in 2005 and 2006, and 201 samples were collected from different citrus species. Samples were tested for the presence of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) by double antibody sandwich-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). While DAS-ELISA showed that 41 trees were infected with CTV, an additional 13 trees were found to be positive based on RT-PCR. Puccinia triticina causes leaf rust in wheat and results in severe yield losses in mild wheat growing areas of Turkey: Thrace, Marmara, Mediterranean, and Çukurova. A feasible way to avoid any damage is to grow slow rusting cultivars. We evaluated 94 wheat genotypes from different countries and 39 leaf rust differentials for their reactions to leaf rust field epidemics. Slow rusting, though, requires both the prediction of Lr genes in the greenhouse and an effective screening of genotypes against the leaf rust field epidemics; the evaluation at the sites regularly favoring leaf rust epidemics like Adapazarı is also possible. Present study indicates specific consumer characteristics that affect consumer preferences for virgin, refined and blend olive oils. The findings of the study suggest that socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of household and household head such as household income, household size, education, age and gender of household head, household with working wife, residential areas (rural-urban), and regional differences were statistically significant factors and play an important role on olive oil consumption choices among Turkish households. Bursaphelenchus mucronatus, a species closely related to the pinewood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, a quarantine pest), was isolated from several wilted pine trees in different provinces of Turkey. To understand the role of B. mucronatus in these wilting cases, the pathogenicity of B. mucronatus on 3-year-old seedlings of the 3 pine species most widespread in Turkey was investigated under greenhouse conditions. In all, 30 seedlings of each tree species were used for nematode inoculation. For inoculation, 1000-1100 nematodes in 0.5 ml of distilled water were used per seedling.
