Pesticides reduce crop losses due to insects, pathogens, weeds and other pests, but can contaminate ground water. Ground water refers to water in the saturated portion of the soil material. Water in an unsaturated region of the soil is termed soil moisture.

Ad libitum fed and individually penned crossbred gilts (39 ± 2 kg) were exposed to a constant air temperature of 30.8*" C (CON) and equal-mean diurnal cyclic temperatures cycling from 26° to 33*^ C (RPK) and from 23.4° to 40° C (RNT). Fluorescent lighting with an intensity of 800 to 1100 L/m/m2 was provided from 0600 h to 2100 h. Measurements of feed intake, heat loss rates, water usage, growth, and ingestion behavior were made for a five-day period and replicated six times. The phrase planting f1exibility was influential in the formation of The Food, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act of 1990 (the 1990 Farm Bill).Several planting flexibility proposals were introduced during the congressional debates leading up to the 1990 Farm Bl11. Each proposal differed in the amount of planting flexibility given to farmers and which acres to use in the calculation of farm program benefits. In this report, we will look at three of those proposals --the Normal Crop Acreage program, the Triple Base program, and the Integrated Farm Management Program Option. This slim volume describes a detailed study of the reproductive parts of Avena fatua, the wild oat plant-a common weed in the northern plains and the probable ancestor of the cultivated oat. The book integrates the author's own work with information from available literature and includes lengthy technical descriptions of the structure and the growth of the inflorescence, the floret, the ovule, the pollen grain, the embryo, the seed, and the young seedling. Economics Research Reports

This report traces the demand for water in various sectors of the economy of South Dakota. Expected trends in water demand are projected. The conclusions show that from 1960 to 1985 the overall demand for water withdrawals increased at an annual rate of 3.275 percent. The public supplied water for industrial and commercial use sector and the irrigation sector of increased at the highest rates.

Previous studies of dairy cattle have indicated that heifers and cows in hot, cold and moderate weather had different patterns of sexual activities. The purpose of this study was to compare distribution of sexual activities within estrus of dairy cattle. Three groups of lactating cows in hot, cold and moderate weather and a group of heifers in cold weather were observed. Estrus for each individual was divided into 12 equal periods. Sexual activities for 3 and 6 hours before and after estrus were also observed. The numbers of mounts and distribution of total sexual activities was analyzed. Mounts received per …
