Aphids are herbivores that feed on plant’s sap and are widespread throughout the globe. To assess the factors affecting the infestation of Aphis gossypii (Glover) and to use antixenosis a trial was conducted using 5 okra genotypes (Sabz Pari, Advanta, Durga, Kaveri, and Shandar) during spring, 2017 at “Agriculture Research Institute” (ARI) Tarnab, under Random Complete Block Design (RCBD) in field and Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in lab with 3 and 8 replications, respectively. Weekly data gathering for mean percent infestation of A. gossypii on each genotype to note variation among genotypes. The aphid infestations (2.5 Aphid leaf-1) …

Journal of Bioresource Management

In this review, we checked the harsh influence of high temperature or heat stress on plant metabolism and crop yield. Plants can bear a minimum range of temperature; temperature more than this optimum range comes in the term of heat stress. Climate changes increase the number and severity of heat waves that reduced the development of plants and resulted in the death of the entire plant. Heat stress is a major stressful environment that destroys plant growth, biochemical reactions, and the yield of crops across the world. High-temperature influences many physiological and chemical reactions in plants. HS is now a …

The sowing date is very crucial among agronomic techniques for ensuring productivity and controlling insect pest. In 2018 and 2019, sowings were carried out 15 days intervals, starting on March 1 and ending on June 16. The dates were: March 1, March 16, April 1, May 1, May 16, and June 1. On advanced cultivars of Bt cotton, namely MNH-1026, MNH-1050, and IUB-13, the whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Aleyrodidae: Hemiptera), and beneficial/predatory fauna were researched (control). The statistical analysis was multivariate. The relationship between the predatory fauna and the prey (whiteflies) in the correlogram was favourable. Predators showed a positive association …

Impact Of Mineral Fertilization, Home Compost And Farm Manure On Yield Components And Nutritional Parameters Of Tomato Fruit, Karima Ghebbi, Mohamed Meziane Bellal

Journal of Bioresource Management

Mineral fertilization, home compost and farm manure were tested on tomato hybrid variety cultivated in open field (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) evaluating the effect on growth, yield components and nutritional parameters of fruit. Tomato variety was grown on clay-loam soil poor in potassium and nitrogen but rich in phosphor and fairly well provided with organic matter. The test was carried out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Results showed that supply by home compost revealed to be better on most of parameters measured compared with farm manure and mineral fertilization. Fruit yield was positively affected by home …

Journal of Bioresource Management

Different methods such as physical, biological and chemical are used to manage soil fungus increasing termites. Synthetic insecticide plays a vital part in the management of termites. The pesticide used in big quantities causes phytotoxicity, mammalian toxicity and resistance to pesticides in target pests and insect outbreaks. Intensive pesticides exert chronic effects on living organisms with annoyance for beneficial insects. It also accompanied with environmental hazards and developed resistance. Plant leaves extracts provide a distinct variety of biochemical compounds with diverse prospective uses. Resistance development requires the discovery of fresh biological compounds with a wide spectrum of action. Plant leaves …

Journal of Bioresource Management

Soils have the most diversified microbial communities of any environment on the planet. Bacteria, fungi, algae, and protozoa are all found in abundance in soil. Maintaining a healthy environment for crops requires a strong link between plants and soil microorganisms that are essential for good crop development. Soil bacteria are key regulators of the nutrient cycle. Mineralization, legume nitrogen fixation, and ammonia conversion to plant-available nitrate would all be impossible without bacteria. Effective microorganisms have the ability to boost crop growth and yield. When used in conjunction with organic amendments, these bacteria performs better than to the sole application. It …

Journal of Bioresource Management

Fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is most destructive specie of genus Spodoptera for several agricultural crops. In Pakistan's Sindh province, the invasive fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda was first documented causing serious maize damage in 2019. There is need to develop management strategies against this pest in the country. The current study was conducted to check the toxicity of different insecticides against FAW in maize field. The results showed among tested insecticides, deltamethrin was recorded most toxic insecticide followed by chlorantraniliprole and emamectin benzoate. At 1d days after first spray, least number of larvae were recorded with deltamethrin (0.07 …

An Investigation Of Weeds In The Wheat Crops In Tehsil Paharpur District Dera Ismail Khan, Nazish Akhtar, Samreen Afzal

Journal of Bioresource Management

Weed infestation is a serious problem for crop yield. It causes a huge yield loss. A comprehensive study to investigate the main wheat weeds within Tehsil Pharpur (Dhakki, Headbilot, Dhupsari, Malakheil, Kalapani, Laar, Rakh Bandkura) in the Dera Ismail Khan region was conducted during the 2020-21 harvest. About 21 species were collected and the weeds competed with the wheat crop for nutrients, water, and light and disrupted the wheat crop. Data was collected in a weed growth phase and a quadratic method was used. Homophobic (RD), relative frequency (RF), relative coefficient (RCC), and value index (IVI) were recorded. It was …

Journal of Bioresource Management

Synthetic pesticides are excessively consumed to control crop pests but abundant use of chemicals may implicate the whole ecosystem badly in the end. Despite the growing concern, few natural products are commercialized for pest control whilst on-farm use of existing botanically-based pesticides remains a small, but growing, component of crop protection practice. The experiment was conducted to assess the potential trade-offs of using botanical extracts (Neem leaf extract, NLE, and Moringa leaf extract, MLE) along with synthetic insecticide, Confidor 200 SL, against Aphis gossypii Glover. Meanwhile, impact of these insecticides on natural enemies were also determined in the field experiment. …

A Review On Overcoming Dual Challenges For Maize Cropping Under High Plant Density: Stalk Lodging And Kernel Abortion, Alam Sher, Javed Iqbal, Wajid Nazeer, Muhammad Mudassar Maqbool, Muhammad Nadeem, Sajid Faiz, Shahbaz Khan Mar 2022

A Review On Overcoming Dual Challenges For Maize Cropping Under High Plant Density: Stalk Lodging And Kernel Abortion, Alam Sher, Javed Iqbal, Wajid Nazeer, Muhammad Mudassar Maqbool, Muhammad Nadeem, Sajid Faiz, Shahbaz Khan

Journal of Bioresource Management

Increased optimal plant density is necessary in ensuring future food security by increasing crop productivity. However, maintaining relatively high plant density has to overcome two challenges i.e. kernel abortion and stalk lodging. The response of maize to increased plant density and the effects of increased plant density on maize productivity were discussed in this research. Increased plant density induces increased plant height, causes low photosynthetic capacity, limits the carbohydrate supply and increases kernel abortion. Also, increased plant density incurs a high risk of stalk lodging due to increased ear height and diminished stem diameter associated with reduced vascular bundles that …

Weeping fig, Ficus benjamina, belongs to Moraceae family is planted alongside the roads as decorative plant and landscape purposes. Fig plants were seen infested with Trilocha varians for three years ago in University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Punjab Pakistan. The complete defoliation, even death of whole plant was observed caused by larvae. The complete metamorphosis was recorded with five larval instars. The fecundity of female was recorded very high (180-300) during its whole life period. The results showed that male was long lived than female. Further studies on current pest biology, host range, biological fauna and management associated with it are …
