The Impact Of European Economic Integration On Israel's Export Of Oranges In 1970, Moshe Gottlieb May 1967

The Impact Of European Economic Integration On Israel's Export Of Oranges In 1970, Moshe Gottlieb

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This thesis is an attempt to evaluate quantitatively as well as qualitatively possible future developments in international trade of oranges and tangerines, and the possible impact of these developments on the export of oranges and tangerines by Israel.

After World War II, international trade in oranges and tangerines increased rapidly, mostly as a result of the rapid rise in standards of living and the improvements in diet habits which took place in many countries at that time. These favorable marketing conditions encouraged the planting of new groves in the citrus growing areas of the world and particularly those of the …

Weber Basin Water Conservancy District: An Economic Appraisal, Dilipsinha C. Pendse May 1967

Weber Basin Water Conservancy District: An Economic Appraisal, Dilipsinha C. Pendse

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Information on Water Conservancy Districts in Utah was collected by mail and personal visits to district offices. There are a total of 12 districts in Utah, but only five were selling water in 1965. The water development projects of the remaining seven were not finished. Some of the districts are small and consolidation would bring them many advantages of large scale operation.

The success of the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District was evaluated from the point of view of economic efficiency. Insistence on long term contract, adherence to water duty requirements set by the Bureau of Reclamation, inability to sell …

Factors Influencing Meat Consumption In The Home, Cache And Box Elder Counties, Utah, 1965-1966, William Duane Evans May 1967

Factors Influencing Meat Consumption In The Home, Cache And Box Elder Counties, Utah, 1965-1966, William Duane Evans

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Meat is important in the American diet. Money spent for meat ranks as the largest single item in the family food dollar. Various studies indicate that the proportion of the food dollar spent for meat ranges from 25 to 30 percent. Such foods as dairy products and fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables calculated as separate groups account for a smaller single percentage than meat. Dairy products, the one of next importance to meat, account for approximately 18 percent of the consumer's food dollar.

Simulation As A Technique For Evaluating Water In Competing Uses, Dennis Norman Detray May 1967

Simulation As A Technique For Evaluating Water In Competing Uses, Dennis Norman Detray

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This thesis is a methodological study of a technique of analysis known as simulation, with special reference to developing economic-cum-hydrologic models of complex real world water resource systems.

It is the eventual goal of this project to develop a complete economic and hydrologic computer model of Cache County, Utah, to further test the applicability of simulation to water resource problems. Although no modeling is carried out, Cache County is used as a foundation for judging the technique within this thesis.

Of the several approaches to simulation which were reviewed, Forrester's (1961) methods, and the use of DYNAMO as a simulation …

Irrigation Water Values In Cache County, Utah, Marlyn Fife May 1967

Irrigation Water Values In Cache County, Utah, Marlyn Fife

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

In Utah all water, both on or below the ground surface, is considered public property. The right to use water is obtained by following certain subsiding procedures of appropriation through the office of the State Engineer. Any right to the use of water may be changed to some other beneficial use with the approval of the State Engineer; however, there must be no interference with other rights, unless proper compensation has been made.

Agriculture still uses most of the available water in Utah; However, farmers' needs for water are not exactly the same. When allocation per acre is the same …

Economic Analysis Of An Iranian Water Development: The Sefeed Rood Project, Malek M. Mohtadi May 1967

Economic Analysis Of An Iranian Water Development: The Sefeed Rood Project, Malek M. Mohtadi

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This thesis is an evaluation of the methods and assumptions employed by those groups responsible for preparation of the original benefit/cost data describing the Sefeed Rood project. Benefit/cost ratios reported by the French engineering firm, Cotha Sogreah, and Plan Organization in a joint study range from 2:1 to 2.6:1 (6 and 10). A priori these seem suspect since the dam plus necessary canals and diversion works are obviously large and costly and only primary benefits are considered. The question is whether the potential benefits are likely to ever yield a positive return on investment and, if so, how long a …

An Analysis Of The Activities Of Agricultural Credit Corporation In Jordan, Akram M. Steitieh May 1967

An Analysis Of The Activities Of Agricultural Credit Corporation In Jordan, Akram M. Steitieh

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Since 1950, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan includes the area currently called East Jordan (previously called the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan) and West Jordan, or the parts of Palestine held by the Arabs following the Arab-Israeli War in 1948.

An Investigation Of Methods For Estimating Marginal Values Of Irrigation Water, Richard L. Johnson May 1967

An Investigation Of Methods For Estimating Marginal Values Of Irrigation Water, Richard L. Johnson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Marginal values of water used in irrigation are needed if water is to be optimally allocated among alternative uses. Cobb-Douglas production function analysis and linear programming methods were studied in this investigation to find their fruit-fulness in predicting these marginal values. The theoretical properties of both methods indicate that they are conceptually capable of yielding valid marginal value estimates for irrigation water.

Further investigation of the two methods was carried out as an empirical test in the Milford area of Utah. Marginal values of water used for irrigation in that area were estimated by both procedures. Although inviolable criteria for …
