“Finishing The Hat”: Reflections On David Skover’S Life In The Law, Ronald K.L. Collins
“Finishing The Hat”: Reflections On David Skover’S Life In The Law, Ronald K.L. Collins
Seattle University Law Review
This Tribute is about Law Professor David Michael Skover, written by his longtime friend, Ronald K.L. Collins. While crafting this Tribute, Collins recalls many personal and professional memories of David Skover. The result is a record of enormous achievement combined with heart-breaking affliction; it is also a chronicle of a man with an unflinching determination to achieve excellence in all things, from mastering his operatic voice to realizing his scholarly objectives.

Calvin Massey, Gentleman Farmer, Evan Tsen Lee
Calvin Massey, Gentleman Farmer, Evan Tsen Lee
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
[Excerpt] “So much of Calvin’s work was intelligible as work about freedom and independence, preventing aggregations of government power that threatened individual freedom. Calvin didn’t love federalism because he had a romanticized view of statehood, he believed in it because he thought centralized power in the federal government was a bigger threat to individual freedom than states were. In most states, a tin-pot governor and amateur hour legislators just aren’t going to be as effective at coercing beliefs as an Executive Branch that contains the U.S. Treasury, the Justice Department, the FBI, and the CIA, not to mention the Pentagon …

Why I So Enjoyed Learning With And From Calvin Massey, Vikram David Amar
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
[Excerpt] “I am pleased and proud to participate in this tribute to Calvin Massey, with whom I had the pleasure to work and play for about two decades. When I think of Calvin—and I think of him often—I think of a generous friend, a gregarious colleague and a genuinely good man. He possessed many admirable traits, but today I want to focus on three: (1) his breadth; (2) his independent mind; and (3) his thoughtfulness.”
The Uneasy Case For The Retirement Of Douglas Kahn, Jeffrey H. Kahn
The Uneasy Case For The Retirement Of Douglas Kahn, Jeffrey H. Kahn
Michigan Business & Entrepreneurial Law Review
In the fall semester of 1964, a young Douglas Kahn joined the faculty of the University of Michigan Law School. During the spring semester of 2016, he will teach his final course as a full-time faculty member. For the interim fifty two years, he has been a fixture of the Michigan law school community. As a tax professor, former student, and his son, I am pleased and honored to write this introduction for an edition of the Michigan Business & Entrepreneurial Law Review honoring Professor Kahn’s tenure at the University of Michigan.

Remembering Harry Pratter (1917-2002), Samuel Born, Joseph Hays, Sarah Riodan, George P. Smith Ii
Harry Pratter (1976-1977 Acting)
At this year's annual Alumni Weekend, colleagues, family, friends, and former students of the inimitable Professor Harry Pratter, who died in March 2002, gathered to share their recollections of his life and career.
Pratter, who was born in the Ukraine and emigrated to the United States as a child, began teaching at the Law School in 1950, after earning his JD from the University of Chicago. He taught many different subjects, including Commercial Law, Negotiable Instruments, Conflicts of Law, Contracts, Torts, and Family Law. But more fundamentally, "he taught life," according to Professor Fred Aman, longtime dean of the school. …
