Sesame is one of the important oilseeds crop in India, which plays a major role in supplementing the income of small and marginal farmers of Sunderbans. One of the major constraints of traditional Sesame farming is low productivity of local varieties. To replace this anomaly, Krishi Vigyan Kendra of CIFRI has conducted frontline demonstration at adopted farmers’ field in four development blocks viz. Kakdwip, Namkhana, Patharpratima and Kulpi of Sunderbans, West Bengal. Cultivation of high yielding varieties of Sesame viz. Rama (Improved Selection-5) and Tilottma (B-67) shows percentage increase of 46.58 and 35.86 respectively over local check. The technology gap …

Rural areas are given first priority as prospective locations for new federal facilities pursuant to the Rural Development Act (“RDA”), which requires federal agencies to adopt policies that give first priority to rural areas when setting up facilities in new locations. While Congress has demanded this development scheme for the benefit of rural areas, few federal agencies have conformed to it. Impact study on introduction of Moong (Vigna radiata) cultivation in rice fallow cropping system of Sundarbans has been done to know the socio -economic impact of Summer Moong cultivation over the populace of Sundarbans after 10 years of start of FLD on Moong in this area. The study covered randomly selected 60 farmer beneficiaries under FLD of three blocks using Before-After analysis through PRA, formal household survey and focused group discussion. Wetlands advocates, from environmentalists to duck hunters, dodged a bullet last year when the Bush Administration dropped plans to narrow its jurisdiction over streams and wetlands. The decision marked a key chapter in a story that began in 2001, when the Supreme Court invalidated part of the Migratory Bird Rule, a regulation that for many years had supported federal protection over some intrastate wetlands. The Court's broad rejection of this narrow rule sent federal jurisdiction under the Clean Water Act into a tailspin. A research team with backgrounds in occupational therapy, rehabilitation, policy and rulemaking, and prevention programs affecting occupational health and safety designed, validated, and analyzed an ergonomics survey of university staff and faculty. The purpose of the study was to validate identified risk factors from the literature contributing to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) in an office setting within a university setting. The study was also designed to determine differences between faculty and staff in the university setting and their exposure to physical risk factors to WRMDs. En definitiva, no puede considerarse que concluir que el citado principio se ‘limita’ a permitir a los ‘poderes públicos’ adoptar medidas preventivas proporcionadas, no discriminatorias y de carácter provisional cuando, a pesar de haberse realizado una evaluación de riesgos lo más completa posible, persisten incertidumbres sobre el alcance y naturaleza de un riesgo inaceptable, sea optar por una definición minimalista del principio de precaución.
