Hb1010, Texas Education Codes 21.557 And 11.205 As Predictors Of The Student At Risk Of Dropping Out Of School, Judy A. Green
Graduate Theses
Dropping out of school prior to the completion of requirements has become a nationwide problem of growing dimensions. The state legislature of Texas, not unlike legislatures in many other states, has charged educational professionals with overcoming or 7 at least diminishing the present startling dropout rate. Through House Bill 1010, criterion have been assigned for the identification of the student who is at risk of dropping out of school. In this study 169 tenth grade dropouts were used to test the mandatory and optional criteria established by the legislature for identifying these students, as well as criteria most indicated by …
Forced Sex In Battering Relationships: An Ethnographic Investigation, Leigh Hofheimer
Forced Sex In Battering Relationships: An Ethnographic Investigation, Leigh Hofheimer
Institute for the Humanities Theses
This research examines the complex problem of forced sex in battering relationships. Interviewing eleven women in a battered women's shelter in a southeastern city, I focused on both their perceptions of forced sex and its effects on their self-esteem, expectations and body-image.
Based on the interviews I conclude that forced sex needs a broader definition than the traditionally accepted definition of rape. In addition, the victims' memories of earlier incidents of physical abuse during sex may influence their perceptions of when they are being forced. This study suggests that future researchers and members of the helping profession should include the …

Eminent Domain Law, Riparian Doctrine, And Early American Land Settlement: An Evolutionary History Of Vested Property Rights From The Late 18th Through The 19th Century, Scott Beckstead
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
This paper is an effort to present a synopsis of the jurisprudence of eminent domain law and riparian doctrine and their place in the history of American property law. Both areas are vast and complicated bodies of law, and both are still undergoing scrutiny and change. We therefore will concentrate on those cases and doctrines that culminated in the eminent domain jurisprudence of the early West. In the context of early American land settlement and development, the paper will define what is known among legal and historical scholars as "takings," expounding on different aspects of that concept. We will examine …
Enforcement Of State Coastal Resources Management Regulations: The Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council, David W. Kaiser
Enforcement Of State Coastal Resources Management Regulations: The Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council, David W. Kaiser
Theses and Major Papers
This paper examines the adequacy of the enforcement efforts of the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) in carrying out the rules and regulations of the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Program (CRMP). This analysis describes the Federal and State mandates and contributions to the enforcement of the Rhode Island CRMP, determines the legitimacy of the CRMC through Superior Court cases, examines CRMC enforcement activities, and determines the compliance to CRMC cease and desist orders. The research finds that the CRMC has not enforced its regulatory responsibilities well. Actual compliance to cease and desist orders was only 41%. It …
Pre-Academy Placement In The Washington State Patrol: Factors Associated With Academy And Job Performance, Richard Franklin Hamack
Pre-Academy Placement In The Washington State Patrol: Factors Associated With Academy And Job Performance, Richard Franklin Hamack
All Master's Theses
Washington State Patrol Trooper Cadets serve in a number of positions, a number of locations across the state and for varying lengths of time before they are selected to attend the academy. The purpose of the present research was to determine whether these factors were related to subsequent academy performance and job performance.
To that end, 255 cadets hired between 1979 and 1985 were studied. The results indicated that only pre-academy assignment duration was significantly correlated with academy completion and academy performance. Implications for further research and departmental policy are discussed.
