During the spring of 1984, the Judiciary Committee of the California Assembly conducted a hearing which investigated the controversy surrounding the July 1983 bar examination. Although that particular bar examination's grading procedure is no longer under scrutiny, several unanswered questions have arisen regarding both the State Bar of California and the Committee of Bar Examiners.

Therefore, the Judiciary Committee will conduct two hearings which will focus on several issues related to the practice of law in California. The first hearing is scheduled for March 12, 1985, and will commence at 3:00 p.m. in Room 126 in the State Capitol. That …

The subject of this interim hearing of the Assembly Judiciary Committee is unaccredited law schools. The hearing will focus on AB 304, authored by Assemblyman Walter Ingalls.

In California there are four methods of studying law which satisfy one of the requirements for admission to practice law. AB 304 would limit the methods of preparing for admission to the practice of law to either graduation from and accredited law school or study in an unaccredited law school which has been certified by the State Bar Committee of Bar Examiners as meeting specified standards and requirements.
