In recent years, there has been an upsurge of international attention on the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in the promotion and protection of human rights. This growing interest is explained by an increased understanding and recognition among states, international and nongovernmental organisations of the important role NHRIs play in promoting and protecting human rights. This article evaluates the extent of the promotion and protection of human rights by the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria (NHRCN) after 15 years of its existence.
