Enforcing The “Safe And Sanitary” Environment Standard Within U.S. Detention Facilities To Save Children’S Lives, Anam A. Khan

Saint Louis University Journal of Health Law & Policy

Overcrowding and unsanitary conditions within Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detention facilities are ideal for the transmission of infectious disease among CBP detainees. All Faculty Scholarship

The history of pediatric medical research has been characterized as a history of child abuse. Usually, the debate regarding the use of children in medical research has centered on questions of Autonomy (informed consent) and Beneficence (the best interest of the child based on a benefit risk analysis). The debate has rarely focused on the question of which children should participate in medical research by discussing the legal principle of Justice (prohibits use of vulnerable populations for medical research who are already overly burdened for medical research unrelated to health issues affecting them and requires that populations who participate in …

Angela Koenig of Lemay worries about her diabetic son Kyle all the time. Medicaid dropped Koenig from its rolls in November 1997. She took a new job a few months later as a bill collector for MCI in Earth City. But she can’t afford to pay $320 a month for family health insurance coverage. Koenig, son Kyle, 6, and her daughter Emalee, 2, are without insurance for the first time. “What if he rides his bike and falls and breaks his arm?” asked Koenig, 23. “We really need insurance.”[1]
