The Role Of The International Law Commission In The Decade Of International Law, Sompong Sucharitkul

The object of this study is, as suggested by its title: "The Role of the International Law Commission in the Decade of International Law". In this exercise, the title role will be played by the International Law Commission in the context of the 'Decade of International Law' recently proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations. The contribution to be expected of the Commission will be viewed from the perspective of the prospect of enhancing the practice of states in the adoption of available means of their choice for the peaceful settlement of international disputes.

Old Friends - New Realities: California's Economic Relationship With Hong Kong And Taiwan And Trade Policy Report, California Commission For Economic Development, Advisory Council On Asia

Last year the Advisory Council on Asia (ACA) was asked by Lieutenant Governor Leo McCarthy to conduct a fact-finding mission to Asia. We believed, as he did, that the pace of economic and political developments in the region was reshaping Asia so quickly and so profoundly that the attention was warranted. As members of California's Asian community and business people involved with Pacific Rim commerce, we believed we could make a major contribution in assessing these developments and their importance to California.

This is a joint hearing of three Assembly Committees: Environmental Safety, Agriculture, and Natural Resources. The subject of this joint hearing is the environmental propositions which are placed on the November ballot by citizen initiative, Propositions 128 and 135. The California Legislature established the Joint Select Task Force on the Changing Family in September, 1987. It was charged with studying the social, economic, and demographic trends affecting California's families, assessing the significance of those trends for public policy, and recommending to the Legislature and the public policies that will better meet the needs of today's families.

With the passage of Proposition 112 (SCA 32) on June 5, 1990, the voters have acknowledged their support for an ethics reform package that is tied to the creation of a Citizens Compensation Commission, which shall have the exclusive power to set the salaries and all fringe benefits, except retirement, for Members of the Legislature and other related state officers. It also prohibits Members and other elected state officers from receiving any honoraria and imposes restrictions on gifts, lobbying activity, and the sources of income of these officers.
