Insider Trading As A Precursor To Modern Business Ethics, Robyn Coleman
Insider Trading As A Precursor To Modern Business Ethics, Robyn Coleman
Finance Undergraduate Honors Theses
There has been a recent change in business that there is more focus on the “stakeholder approach” than shareholder primacy. This can be attributed to the early actions and illegality of insider trading that expected a step beyond a solely economic approach. This attitude was then replicated to become what we see as the modern business approach. Business now includes ethical investing, environmental focus, corporate citizenship, and emphasis on multiple stakeholders that was not always there. Companies have embraced this position while others have been criticized for not doing so. As this approach develops and changes, it will be enlightening …
How Access To Finances Affects Gender Inequality Across Cultures, Allison Muntin
How Access To Finances Affects Gender Inequality Across Cultures, Allison Muntin
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
While many studies of financial inclusion have been undertaken, very few discuss the inclusion of women. Financial inclusion plays a large role in unlocking resources for the disadvantaged, resulting in higher economic growth and development. The economic opportunity allows individuals and businesses to have a greater contribution to society as a whole, enhancing all aspects of the economy. This paper furthers the conversation of women’s access to financial institution accounts across cultures and what underlying factors play a key role. The results indicate that the female demographic has fewer financial institution accounts in comparison to men when: (i) a country’s …

State Juvenile Justice Spending Decisions: The Effects Of Federal Aid, Race, Politics, And Other Socioeconomic Factors, Willie B. Coleman Smith
State Juvenile Justice Spending Decisions: The Effects Of Federal Aid, Race, Politics, And Other Socioeconomic Factors, Willie B. Coleman Smith
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Historically, juvenile justice in the United States has been the responsibility of state governments with limited federal support. There is a notable gap in the empirical literature on factors that affect funding policies for state juvenile justice programs. In this dissertation research, I used two theoretical perspectives to examine determinants of juvenile justice spending: economic theory on intergovernmental aid and tenets of the Politics of Social Order Framework, developed by Stucky, Heimer, and Lang (2007) to investigate corrections spending. Two research questions were considered: 1) What impact does federal aid have on state spending on juvenile justice programs? and 2) …
Identification Requirements And Policy In Alternative Remittance : A Measure Of Legislative Adherence, Timothy J. Smith
Identification Requirements And Policy In Alternative Remittance : A Measure Of Legislative Adherence, Timothy J. Smith
Theses : Honours
Money laundering is a persistent threat to the economic viability of every nation. However the intent behind this behaviour does not always converge with the criminality of the act. A study of 395 international university students in Australia demonstrated a prominent cultural and regional norm in South Asia to use untraceable ‘informal’ remittance systems. Under Australian legislation, the use of a non-compliant alternative or informal value transfer system (IVTS) is an act that predicates the laundering of money regardless of intent. Yet in line with a clear cultural proclivity and trust in money transfer businesses, it is evident that many …
Stochastic Modeling Of Retail Mortgage Loans Based On Past Due, Prepaid, And Default States, Chang Liu
Stochastic Modeling Of Retail Mortgage Loans Based On Past Due, Prepaid, And Default States, Chang Liu
Doctoral Dissertations
Stochastic models were developed that provide important measures related to retail mortgages and credit cards for the management of a bank. Based on Markov theory, two models were developed that predict mortgage portfolio size and expected duration of stay in each of the states, which are defined according to the criteria of Basel Accord II and the Federal Reserve Bank. Also, to facilitate comparisons among different types of credit products and different time periods, a model was developed to generate a health index for a retail mortgage. This model could be easily extended, using multivariate regression or multivariate time series …
A Critical Analysis Of New Mexico School Laws, 1933-1947, Nathan B. Mcneilly
A Critical Analysis Of New Mexico School Laws, 1933-1947, Nathan B. Mcneilly
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
It is the purpose of this study (1) to analyze those New Mexico School laws which have been enacted since 1931; (2) to criticize them on the basis of their particular value, or lack of value, to public education in New Mexico; and (3) to suggest revisions which closely parallel the recommendations of outstanding research groups and authorities in the field of educational administration.
State school law is the foundation upon which a state education system is built. In view of this fact, it is highly important that those laws be periodically studied by educations in order that those which …
