To decide whether a veteran is compensated for a psychological disability connected to the veteran’s military service, the VA will usually require the veteran to be examined by a doctor, who will report on the veteran’s medical or psychiatric condition(s) and how well the veteran is functioning. The VA will rely heavily on the medical report to determine the severity of the veteran’s psychological disability.
