Online Hookups And Employer Hangups: Pickering-Connick Doctrine's Applicability To Hookup Websites, Tom Curtin

This article explores whether an individual can and should be fired for off-duty sexual speech on the Internet, specifically for sexually explicit and deviant language on “hookup” websites, such as Manhunt.net and Adam4Adam.com. In the past few years, more than five million men have signed up on these websites, posting sexually explicit profiles, often displaying nude photographs and expressing sexual preferences that an outsider might find deviant. With the free flow of information on the Internet, employers have easily discovered these profiles and fired individuals for the content on these ads.
