Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence

Legal, court, and criminal justice professionals regularly navigate court procedures and processes through online portals. They know where to locate applicable court rules, such as a specific section on a court website or a departmental contact. However, these tasks can be extremely daunting for laypersons seeking court assistance, especially for victims of violence who have limited time away from the abuser. To determine how state judicial branches make information available about protective order procedures and general information to a layperson, especially to victims of intimate partner violence, this study assessed court websites of five states where intimate partner violence (IPV) …

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the U.S. legal academy and legal profession to make changes to legal education and training very rapidly in order to accommodate the needs of students, graduates, practitioners, clients, and the public. Like most of the public, members of the profession assumed that most, if not all, of the changes would be temporary, and life would return to a pre-pandemic normal.

These assumed temporary changes included a rapid and massive shift to online teaching for legal education, to online administration of the bar exam in some jurisdictions, or the option to offer the diploma privilege in others. …

Everything I Know About Teaching Was Reinforced By Auditing Remote Kindergarten, Allie Robbins

As a tenure-track faculty member, I am always focused on the trifecta of tenure—scholarship, service, and teaching. The pressure to publish and present is constant and unending. Service requires countless hours in committee meetings and doing the work of faculty governance. Being a faculty member focused on academic and bar support requires spending a significant amount of time meeting one-on-one with students and providing written feedback. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several new stressors were also added to this already-overwhelming workload ­–a constantly changing and elongated bar prep period, the need to create new asynchronous class components and assessments for …
