Fire Protection Analysis Of A K-12 Classroom Building, Raymond Yip Jun 2023

Fire Protection Analysis Of A K-12 Classroom Building, Raymond Yip

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The report evaluates the fire protection features of a K-12 classroom building (Bldg. B) in San Bernardino County, California. Bldg. B is a two-story Type V-A light timber frame construction. At the time of this report’s composition, Bldg. B is undergoing modernization construction. The fire protection analysis of this building consists of prescriptive and performance portions.

The prescriptive analysis verifies the compliance of building egress, passive, and active protection features with the 2019 edition of California Codes of Regulations Title 24 (Title 24) and Title 24-adopted National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. The analysis comprises of four sections: egress, structural …

Tucson Student Housing, Abraham Coria Jun 2021

Tucson Student Housing, Abraham Coria

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The purpose of this report is to perform a two-part analysis of Tucson Student Housing’s fire protection design components. The two-part analysis consists of a prescriptive analysis, and a performance-based analysis. The purpose of the prescriptive-based analysis is to verify Tucson Student Housing meets or exceeds applicable construction standards. The prescriptive based analysis reviews the fire resistance of building elements, flammability of interior finishes, wet suppression system, fire alarm system, voice evacuation system, and occupant egress requirements. The performance-based analysis evaluates the performance of Tucson Student Housing’s fire protection systems when subjected to specified design fires. The design fire scenarios …

Second Baptist Church, Cypress Campus, David Kalinec Jun 2020

Second Baptist Church, Cypress Campus, David Kalinec

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report was created as part of the Master of Science Fire Protection Engineering degree program at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. This project summarized the covered subjects during the course of each quarter of the program. The site chosen for this project is Second Baptist Church, Cypress Campus, located in Cypress, TX. This building was chosen because Churches are mixed use buildings that include assembly occupancies and large occupant loads.

A prescriptive-based code evaluation was performed on the building according to the 2012 editions of the international building code and fire code, adopted at the time …

Cal Poly Engineering Iv Building, Kai Liu Jun 2020

Cal Poly Engineering Iv Building, Kai Liu

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report analyzes the fire protection systems of Engineering IV building at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. It is a cumulative project of the Fire Protection Engineering Program at Cal Poly. The report consists of a prescriptive analysis and a performance-based design analysis. The building contains dry laboratories, classrooms, offices, and administrative spaces. The building is a three-story structure. There is an atrium that connects the first floor to the third floor. However, the building has a horizontal enclosure to separate the connection between the second floor and the third floor.

The prescriptive analysis is based on the …

Gaslamp Hotel-Fire Protection/Life Safety Analysis, Garner A. Palenske Jun 2019

Gaslamp Hotel-Fire Protection/Life Safety Analysis, Garner A. Palenske

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The Gaslamp Hotel was analyzed for fire protection/life safety using two different methodologies; a prescriptive approach and a performance-based approach. Both considered the same features of the building. The prescriptive analyses studied the variation of the building’s fire protection/life safety components from those required by the applicable codes and standards. This included building construction, fire resistance, fire suppression, fire detection, smoke control system, and egress systems. The results of the analysis indicate that the building complies with the requirements of the applicable codes and standards, with three exceptions relating to occupant egress: 1) The first-floor bar area: One exit is …

Building V: Fire And Life Safety Analysis, Andrew Ko Jun 2019

Building V: Fire And Life Safety Analysis, Andrew Ko

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

A fire and life safety analysis was completed for Building V as part of a culminating project in the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo Fire Protection Engineering Master’s Degree Program. This report will detail both a prescriptive design based on the 2013 California Building Code and applicable standards as well as a performance based analysis based on a design fire scenario.

The prescriptive design will discuss four main components of compliance: 1) Structural Fire Protection, 2) Fire Alarm, 3) Fire Sprinkler, and 4) Means of Egress. Structural fire protection analysis is separated into four parts: type of …

Life Safety And Fire Analysis - Aircraft Hangar, Frederick J. Tanis Jr. Jun 2018

Life Safety And Fire Analysis - Aircraft Hangar, Frederick J. Tanis Jr.

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

A hangar originally built in 1958 then modified and expanded over the years was evaluated using both the prescriptive requirements and a performance analysis. For the prescriptive analysis the building was evaluated against the 2015 International Building Code and the current NFPA codes and in a few cases the Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC). During the prescriptive analysis a few areas were identified that do not meet the current codes due to areas being broken up into separate rooms and hallways and rooms being separated by security doors that only allow unobstructed travel in one direction. These …

Cal Poly Student Recreation Center Fire Protection Review, Alain N. Mamada Jun 2014

Cal Poly Student Recreation Center Fire Protection Review, Alain N. Mamada

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report summarizes the analysis of the existing fire protection features and systems installed in the Recreation Center building on the Cal Poly campus. The analysis is conducted into two different approaches. A prescriptive analysis approach will examine installed fire protection features and systems in accordance with the International Building Code. The analysis will consider the building as existing building as per IBC provisions. A performance-based approach will assess whether the building occupants will egress the building before conditions become untenable. Fire dynamic simulations will be used to determine the available safe egress time and evacuation simulations will performed to …
