Developing An Early Life Cycle Manufacturability Assessment For Conceptual Designs, Tonya Gamblin Mccall Dec 2022

Developing An Early Life Cycle Manufacturability Assessment For Conceptual Designs, Tonya Gamblin Mccall

Theses and Dissertations

Studies have shown that 70 – 80% of a product's life cycle costs are committed by the end of the product design phase (Anderson, 2014; National Research Council, 1991; Swift, 1987). This supports the general claim that decision making in the conceptual stage drives the cost throughout the life cycle. The use of concurrent engineering has been viewed as the answer to this problem, offering the Design for Excellence (DFX) as one approach for evaluating product designs across specific disciplines. This research focuses on a subset of DFX referred to as Design for Manufacturability to develop a means to assess …

Assessing Readiness For Implementation Of Prognostics And Health Management In Small And Medium Enterprises, Sara C. Fuller Aug 2022

Assessing Readiness For Implementation Of Prognostics And Health Management In Small And Medium Enterprises, Sara C. Fuller

Theses and Dissertations

Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) refers to using robust sensing, monitoring, and control to detect, assess, and track system health degradation and failure modes, allowing for enhanced management and operational decisions. The need for PHM within a manufacturing facility has increased due to a variety of reasons, such as the increasing complexity of manufacturing equipment.

A lack of readiness for digital implementations is linked to failure. The literature highlights certain barriers and enablers that can signal whether a technology implementation will be successful, such as management and maintenance employees’ desire to change the existing process, an understanding and willingness to …

Student Self-Grading Form, Brett Whysel Jun 2022

Student Self-Grading Form, Brett Whysel

Open Educational Resources

This is a word document that students use at the beginning, midpoint, and end of a semester to set relevant goals, measure progress towards goals, and self-grade. It is intended to build motivation, metacognition, and accountability. Instructors may use it on its own or to supplement other assessment tools, and improve the accuracy, validity, and fairness of final grades.

Assessing The Effectiveness Of Problem-Based Learning Across Two Concrete Construction Courses, Anthony Torres, Jiong Hu, Vedaraman Sriraman, Araceli Martínez-Ortiz, Jorge Membrillo-Hernández May 2022

Assessing The Effectiveness Of Problem-Based Learning Across Two Concrete Construction Courses, Anthony Torres, Jiong Hu, Vedaraman Sriraman, Araceli Martínez-Ortiz, Jorge Membrillo-Hernández

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering: Faculty Publications

The goal of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) pedagogy that was implemented in two different concrete construction courses. Both courses are a part of an industry focused four-year undergraduate concrete degree program. One of the classes focused on concrete problems, diagnosis, and repair of existing concrete, while the other class focused on handling and management methods of various concrete mixtures. In both courses, a PBL pedagogy was implemented such that students were self-learning and discovering the knowledge through an action-research case study. The action-research case study was specific to the course outcomes relevant …

Learning Analytics For The Formative Assessment Of New Media Skills, Negar Shabihi Mar 2022

Learning Analytics For The Formative Assessment Of New Media Skills, Negar Shabihi

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Recent theories of education have shifted learning environments towards student-centred education. Also, the advancement of technology and the need for skilled individuals in different areas have led to the introduction of new media skills. Along with new pedagogies and content, these changes require new forms of assessment. However, assessment as the core of learning has not been modified as much as other educational aspects. Hence, much attention is required to develop assessment methods based on current educational requirements. To address this gap, we have implemented two data-driven systematic literature reviews to recognize the existing state of the field in the …

Reconfigurable Modules For Automatic Creating Robotic Courses, Ana Djuric, Vukica Jovanovic Jan 2022

Reconfigurable Modules For Automatic Creating Robotic Courses, Ana Djuric, Vukica Jovanovic

Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

The main objective of this paper is to describe a teaching tool that can be used for automated creation of different problems that can be used for assessing student knowledge while teaching industrial robotics courses. These materials can be used for instructors who need to create customized questions and answers for different student homework. Wayne State University, Detroit, MI offer different industrial robotics and courses related to fundamental robotic theory: kinematics, dynamics, and control. Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA offers the course in Introduction to Industrial Robotics. Both programs are Mechanical Engineering Technology under the Engineering Technology departments / division. …
