Enhanced control of the short-circuit gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process can be achieved through the use of an advanced power source applying a controlled current waveform. By using a current waveform whose period is adapted to suit the requirements of the process, excellent welding performance can be achieved. When the current waveform is of fixed peak amplitude and shape, the control can be considered to be open-loop, as there is no active attempt to regulate a specific process parameter such as arc length, fusion area or dipping frequency. The structure, morphology and content of the as-prepared and the processed samples were characterized by the means of SEM and XRD. The discharge capacities and cycle life performances of the as-prepared and the processed samples were tested by electrochemical measurements with different rates. The results indicated that the 4BS technology which can affect the plate design, deep cycle capability and cycle life is a basic technology for the VRLA batteries. It was also confirmed that the contents and structures of α-PbO2 and β-PbO2 formed with different processing conditions can affect the performance of the VRLA batteries, suggesting that the production …

Transient transfection is a method to introduce foreign DNA into a healthy cell population. Transient transfection can be accomplished by chemical, mechanical, and electrical delivery. Although foreign DNA is not incorporated into the host cell genome, host cell machinery is used to transcribe and translate the gene of interest. This presentation will illustrate the enhancement of transgene production through reagent optimization and feeds and show benefits of transient work, such as, eliminating the need for generation of a stable engineered cell line; allowing the process scaleability; and decreasing the time for generation of comparable amounts of product.

This paper presents a novel methodology for the allocation of sensors in multi-station assembly processes. It resolves two core issues pertaining to the determination of an optimal number of sensors to be employed and their best locations. To make the traditional approach more effective, the effect of noise on sensor placement is minimized by maximizing the determinant of the Fischer information matrix. A micro hydromechanical deep drawing is carried out using the pure titanium and the effect of fluid pressure on formability of pure titanium is investigated. The experiments are performed using the two kinds of pure titanium foils (TR270C-H and TR270C-O) and stainless steel foil (SUS304-H) with 50 thickness and the cylindrical and conical punches. As a result, it is found that the peeling off the oxide film of pure titanium can be reduced by applying the fluid pressure because the friction force and contact pressure between the blank and die decreases. A refined microstructure consisting of martensite and retained austenite at room temperature has been produced in a Nb-microalloyed low carbon Si-Mn steel by a novel heat-treatment, pre-quenching prior to quenching and partitioning processes (Q&Q-P). The results showed that compared with the conventional quenching and partitioning steel the mechanical properties of steel obtained by the novel treatment have been significantly improved, with a good combination of ultimate tensile strength (1000MPa) and total elongation (above 30%). Stoichiometric magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4, MA)-samarium aluminate (SmAlO3, SA) ceramics have been prepared at 1580°C for 4h from calcined magnesia (MgO), commercial alumina (Al2O3) and samarium oxide (Sm2O3) by a single-stage in-situ reaction sintering (SIRS) method. The phase compositions, microstructures, shrinkage ratio, bulk density and cold compressive strength of the MA-SA ceramics have been investigated. In this manuscript, an interesting phenomenon is reported. That is the self-growth of single crystals in Pb-free piezoelectric ceramics. These crystals are several centimeters in size. They are grown without any seed addition through a normal sintering process in modified potassium sodium niobate ceramics. It has been achieved by the composition designed to compensate the Na + loss which occurs during the liquid phase sintering. The composition of the crystals is (K0.4925 Na0.4925-x Ba0.015+x/2)Nb 0.995+x O3 [x is determined by the Na+ loss, due to Na2O volatilization]. These crystals have high piezoelectric voltage coefficients (g33, 131 10-3 Vm/N), indicating that …
