Anisotropic And Excellent Magnetocaloric Properties Of La 0.7ca0.3mno3 Single Crystal With Anomalous Magnetization, J.C Debnath, Rong Zeng, Jung Ho Kim, Dapeng Chen, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Magnetic properties and the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) have been investigated in La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 single crystal with applied field along both the ab-plane and the c-direction. Due to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy, the crystal exhibits anisotropy in the MCE. Upon application of a 5 T field, the magnetic entropy changes (SM), reaching values of 7.668 J/(kg K) and 6.412 J/(kg K) for both the ab-plane and the c-direction, respectively. A magnetic entropy change of 3.3 J/(kg K) was achieved for a magnetic field change of 1.5 T at the Curie temperature, TC = 245 K. Due to the absence of grains in the …

Ferroelectric And Ferromagnetic Nanofibers: Synthesis, Properties And Applications, A Jalalian, A M. Grishin, S X. Dou Jan 2012

Ferroelectric And Ferromagnetic Nanofibers: Synthesis, Properties And Applications, A Jalalian, A M. Grishin, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

As first time, ferroelectric (Ba0.85Ca0.15)(Ti0.9Zr0.1)O3 (BCTZ), biocompatible (Na0.5K0.5)NbO3 (NKN), and ferromagnetic Y3Fe5O12 (YIG) nanofibers were synthesized by sol-gel assisted electrospining technique. Non-woven, bead-free 100 μm long fiber mat was formed from close-packed nanocrystals after calcination in air at 800°C (BCTZ and NKN) and 1100°C (YIG). BCTZ fibers are 200 nm in width whereas NKN and YIG fibers have smaller 50-100 nm diameter. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy show that BCTZ and NKN crystallized in tetragonal and rhombohedral polar phases in the vicinity of morphotropic phase boundary. …

Magnetic Properties And Microstructures Of Iron Oxide@Mesoporous Silica Core-Shell Composite For Applications In Magnetic Dye Separation, Weichang Hao, Yang Xi, Jingwei Hu, Tianmin Wang, Yi Du, X L. Wang Jan 2012

Magnetic Properties And Microstructures Of Iron Oxide@Mesoporous Silica Core-Shell Composite For Applications In Magnetic Dye Separation, Weichang Hao, Yang Xi, Jingwei Hu, Tianmin Wang, Yi Du, X L. Wang

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

"In this report, hollow mesoporous silica (HMS) and iron oxide-hollow mesoporous silica (FexOy@HMS) core-shell composite were prepared by a one-step facile fabrication method. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, and vibrating sample magnetometer were used to characterize the morphology, microstructure, and magnetic properties of the HMS and core-shell composite. The magnetic separability of FexOy@HMS core-shell composite was tested in Rhodamine B (Rh. B) dye solution. The results indicate that the core-shell composite can absorb Rh. B dyes molecules effectively up to 90.1%. (C) 2012 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3670049]"

Magnetic And Superconducting Properties Of Spin-Fluctuation-Limited Superconducting Nanoscale Vnx, R Zeng, J Liu, G Du, W. X. Li, J Wang, J Horvat, S X. Dou Jan 2012

Magnetic And Superconducting Properties Of Spin-Fluctuation-Limited Superconducting Nanoscale Vnx, R Zeng, J Liu, G Du, W. X. Li, J Wang, J Horvat, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

"VNx nanoparticles and nanowires have been prepared by nitrifying V2O5 nanoparticles (NP) and nanowires (NW). The V2O5 NP and NW were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. Magnetic susceptibility (chi) and magnetization measurements showed long range superconducting ordering (LRSO) at the temperature of 5.8 K for NW, but there was no observation of LRSO (at least down to 2 K) for the NP sample, which is a much lower temperature than for the corresponding bulk, while both NP and NW showed the absence of long range magnetic ordering, at least down to 2 K. However, the chi data showed that …

Magnetostrictive Properties Of Directional Solidification Fe82ga9al9 Alloy, Y Zhou, X L. Wang, B W. Wang, Y Du, Y Liu, L Q. Liu

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

"Fe82Ga9Al9 alloy rod was prepared by the directional solidification (DS) method. The effects of uniaxial compressive stress on magnetostriction of the alloy and the temperature dependence of magnetostriction were investigated. The results show that the magnetostriction increases from 135 x 10(-6) at 2.3 MPa to 221 x 10(-6) at 53 MPa and then remains at this value between 53 MPa and 90 MPa. This enhancement results from domain rotation under the compressive stress. The temperature dependence results show that the saturated magnetostriction decreases by 11% (25 degrees C-120 degrees C) and 13% (25 degrees C-100 degrees C) for samples with …

Enhanced Hydrogen Storage Properties Of Naalh4 Co-Catalysed With Niobium Fluoride And Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes, Jianfeng Mao, Zaiping Guo, Hua-Kun Liu Jan 2012

Enhanced Hydrogen Storage Properties Of Naalh4 Co-Catalysed With Niobium Fluoride And Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes, Jianfeng Mao, Zaiping Guo, Hua-Kun Liu

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The effects of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as a co-catalyst with NbF5 on the dehydrogenation and hydrogenation kinetics of NaAlH4 were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, temperature-programmed desorption, and isothermal hydrogen ab/desorption techniques. It has been revealed that there is a synergistic effect of SWCNTs and NbF5 on the de/rehydrogenation of NaAlH4, which improves the hydrogen de/absorption performance when compared to adding either SWCNTs or NbF5 alone. For example, the apparent activation energy for the first-step and the second-step dehydrogenation of the co-doped NaAlH4 sample is estimated to be 85.9 …

Fabrication And Magneto-Transport Properties Of P-Type Bi0.5sb1.5te3 Thin Films On Glass By Pulsed Laser Deposition, Zhenwei Yu, Xiaolin Wang, Yi Du, Chao Zhang Jan 2012

Fabrication And Magneto-Transport Properties Of P-Type Bi0.5sb1.5te3 Thin Films On Glass By Pulsed Laser Deposition, Zhenwei Yu, Xiaolin Wang, Yi Du, Chao Zhang

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Bi0.5Sb1. 5Te3 thin films were deposited on glass substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method at room temperature. Annealing effect on properties of the films was studied by structural, morphology and physical characterizations. It was found that the as-grown amorphous film crystallizes at annealing temperature of 473 K. A semiconductor-metal transition was observed in annealed films. A linear magnetoresistance (MR) was investigated in the annealed films in a magnetic field up to 13 T without saturation at low temperature.
