Air Piston Approach To Wave Power Generation, Arun Ramadass May 2010

Air Piston Approach To Wave Power Generation, Arun Ramadass

Theses

Scientists have calculated that, by tapping just 0.2% of the energy produced by the world's oceans we can provide for all the worlds current energy needs. It is generally accepted that a combination of traditional energy production methods, (oil, coal, gas, nuclear) mixed with a combination of renewable energy production approaches is the future in providing for an increasingly energy hungry world. Wind, solar and biomass have moved into the public arena only in the last few years.

The proposed patented device (US Patent No.: 7,468,563) Ocean Wave Energy Converter harnesses the energy of ocean waves by continually raising and …

Modeling And Control Of A Wind Farm And Electrolyzer System Connected To An Electrical Gird, Dr. Adel A. Elbaset, Prof. Dr. Omar H. Abdalla Apr 2010

Modeling And Control Of A Wind Farm And Electrolyzer System Connected To An Electrical Gird, Dr. Adel A. Elbaset, Prof. Dr. Omar H. Abdalla

Dr. Adel A. Elbaset

This paper presents modeling and control analysis of a combined Wind-H2 system connected to an electrical grid and supplying a local electric load. The system consists of a wind farm for electricity generation and an electrolyzer to produce hydrogen for a filling station. A computer program has been developed in MATLAB for simulating the operation and control of the integrated system. Energy balances and hydrogen flow balances are calculated for each time step based on a system model and the specified control strategy. The input of this program are hourly wind speed, characteristics of wind turbine generators, hourly load demand, …

Energy Reduction In Automotive Paint Shops A Review Of Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturing, Claudia Patricia Arenas Guerrero Jan 2010

Energy Reduction In Automotive Paint Shops A Review Of Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturing, Claudia Patricia Arenas Guerrero

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

Automotive industry is facing fundamental challenges due to the rapid depletion of fossil fuels, energy saving and environmental concerns. The need of sustainable energy development has motivated the research of energy reduction and renewable energy sources. Efficient use of energy in vehicle manufacturing is demanded, as well as an alternative energy source to replace gasoline powered engines. In this thesis, we introduce a case study at an automotive paint shop, where the largest amount of energy consumption of an automotive assembly plant takes place. Additionally, we present a summary of recent advances in the area of hybrid and electrical vehicles …

Algae And Biodiesel: Patenting Energized As Green Goes Commercial, Matthew R. Priess, Stanley P. Kowalski Jan 2010

Algae And Biodiesel: Patenting Energized As Green Goes Commercial, Matthew R. Priess, Stanley P. Kowalski

Law Faculty Scholarship

In the twenty-first century, predominant dependence on fossil fuels as energy resources will not be sustainable. Developing and commercializing green energy innovations will be an essential component of the transition to a more diversified energy economy. Algal biodiesel is one of the most promising green fuels because of its potential as a renewable and sustainable fuel source without displacing food crops. Algal biodiesel research and development are necessary early steps towards a transition to a green energy economy. The strategic use of strong patent portfolios will drive this by attracting investment, incentivizing innovation and accelerating commercialization. Whereas algal biodiesel research …

Estimating Potential Photovoltaic Yield With R.Sun And The Open Source Geographical Resources Analysis Support System, H. T. Nguyen, Joshua M. Pearce Dec 2009

Estimating Potential Photovoltaic Yield With R.Sun And The Open Source Geographical Resources Analysis Support System, H. T. Nguyen, Joshua M. Pearce

Joshua M. Pearce

The package r.sun within the open source Geographical Resources Analysis Support System (GRASS) can be used to compute insolation including temporal and spatial variation of albedo and solar photovoltaic yield. A complete algorithm is presented covering the steps of data acquisition and preprocessing to post-simulation whereby candidate lands for incoming solar farms projects are identified. The optimal resolution to acquire reliable solar energy outputs to be integrated into PV system design software was determined to be 1 square km. A case study using the algorithm developed here was performed on a North American region encompassing fourteen counties in South-eastern Ontario. …
