The Impact Of Quality Management Systems During A Pebble Bed Modular Reactor Project : A Case Study, Lwandiso Zamxaka Oct 2010

The Impact Of Quality Management Systems During A Pebble Bed Modular Reactor Project : A Case Study, Lwandiso Zamxaka

Lwandiso L Zamxaka

In the nuclear industry, Quality Management Systems are extremely important, especially if one wishes to improve public acceptance of radioactive solutions. There is normally minimum communication between the public and scientists, especially in nuclear science. People are not comfortable with nuclear technology, based on the past history of the Chernobyl catastrophe. Consequently, it is difficult to discuss important and sensitive issues like disposing of nuclear waste. Quality Management Systems can improve public confidence and communication. Integrated Management Systems in the project planning stage of the project can be a proactive step towards preventing unnecessary delays and costs. There is a perception that quality is …

Evaluation Of An Eye Tracking Device To Increase Error Recovery By Nursing Students Using Human Patient Simulation, Yan Shen Jan 2010

Evaluation Of An Eye Tracking Device To Increase Error Recovery By Nursing Students Using Human Patient Simulation, Yan Shen

Masters Theses 1911 - February 2014

This study evaluates the application of an eye tracking device in nursing education. An experiment is designed to test the effectiveness of the eye tracking device used as a tool for providing instructional feedback in error identification and recovery by nursing students undertaking tasks in a simulated clinical setting. This experiment is performed on three groups of nursing students. In the first phase, all groups are tested in a simulated clinical scenario and their eye movements are recorded using an eye tracking device. In the second phase, the evaluation only group (control group) gets instructors’ feedback regarding their performance without …

Electronic Falls Reporting System Implementation: Evaluating Data Collection Methods And Studying User Acceptance, Yi You Mei Jan 2010

Electronic Falls Reporting System Implementation: Evaluating Data Collection Methods And Studying User Acceptance, Yi You Mei

Masters Theses 1911 - February 2014

In this research, we detail the development of a novel, easy-to-use system to facilitate electronic patient falls reporting within a long-term residential care facility (LTRCF) using off-the-shelf technology that can be inexpensively implemented in a wide variety of settings. We report the results of four complimentary system evaluation measures that take into consideration varied organizational stakeholders’ perspectives: 1) System-level benefits and costs, 2) System usability, via scenario-based use cases, 3) A holistic assessment of users’ physical, cognitive, and marcoergonomic (work system) challenges in using the system, and 4) User technology acceptance. We report the viability of collecting and analyzing data …

Optimized Market Introduction Of Large Capital Products (Lcp) With Long Development And Learning Cycles, Antje Lembcke Jan 2010

Optimized Market Introduction Of Large Capital Products (Lcp) With Long Development And Learning Cycles, Antje Lembcke

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Any product sold is expected to be reliable and available when the customer wants to operate it. Companies that produce large capital products (LCP), such as rockets, satellites, or large gas turbines to generate electrical energy, tend to shy away from extending their testing and validation method above the requirements by law, mainly due to the very high costs of each additional test and the uncertain return on investment. This research shows that today’s state of the art validation methods for LCP, required by law, or suggested in literature, and adapted by these industries, are not capable of capturing all …
