With the remarkable growth of the US fuel ethanol industry in the past decade, large quantities of corn-based distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) are now being produced. Flowability of DDGS has become a problem throughout the industry, as it is often restricted by caking and bridging during storage and transport. The objective of this study was to quantify physical and flow properties of commercially produced unmodified (9.3% db fat) and reduced fat (2.1% db) DDGS to determine if fat level affects flowability. The compressive modulus of reduced fat DDGS was 28.2% higher than unmodified DDGS, but shear stress resistance …

We report synthesis, structure, electrical transport, and heat capacity of SmFeAsO. The title compound is synthesized by one-step encapsulation of stoichiometric FeAs, Sm, and Sm2O3 in an evacuated (10−5 Torr) quartz tube by prolong (72 h) annealing at 1100 °C. The as-synthesized compound is crystallized in tetragonal structure with P4/nmm space group having lattice parameters a = 3.937 26(33) A and c = 8.498 02(07) A. The resistance (R-T) measurements on the compound exhibited ground state spin-density-wave (SDW)-like metallic steps below 140 K. Heat capacity CP( …

The aerosolized particulates produced during an impact of depleted uranium munitions can potentially contaminate extensive areas around the impact sites and cause a wide spectrum of civilian and military damage. Thus materials such as WHA have been prompted for consideration. The present research is concerned with the regular collection of aerosol particulates associated with ballistic WHA rod penetration into rolled homogeneous steel (RHA) or other related steel armor as armor plate sequences. Particulate size characterization via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) along with chemical compositions via energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were the focus of this research. …

We report the changes occurring in cement pastes irradiated by 10.6um CO2 laser at different stages of hydration. Raman spectroscopy, X-rays and Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM) techniques had been used to observe molecular structural changes. Intensity of cement paste Raman peaks after laser irradiation was monitored in samples irradiated 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 days after their preparation. Applied laser power changed Raman peaks intensity at 187.5cm-1, 563cm-1, 695cm-1, 750cm-1, 897cm-1, 1042cm-1 and 1159cm-1 that corresponds to compounds already presents in cement pastes. X ray diffraction and SEM images confirm the recrystalization of cement …
