Development Of A Decision Support System For Sustainable Water Planning In Abu Dhabi, Uae, Mohamed Ibrahim Kizhisseri Jun 2021

Development Of A Decision Support System For Sustainable Water Planning In Abu Dhabi, Uae, Mohamed Ibrahim Kizhisseri

Dissertations

One of the main challenges for water managers is to foresee the future accurately; then, design appropriate policies and infrastructure plans accordingly. The use of decision support systems in the field of water resource management and planning is now widely implemented, but its use in sustainable water planning of a nation or state in arid and semi-arid areas, such as Middle East countries, remains limited. The main objective of this dissertation is to present a graphical software tool that can assist water planners and decision-makers in long-term water management and planning. Sustainable planning for Abu Dhabi’s future water supply is …

Mars Knot Positioning And Global Optimization, Xinglong Ju Aug 2019

Mars Knot Positioning And Global Optimization, Xinglong Ju

Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering Dissertations

Multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) is a statistical modeling approach with wide real-world applications. In the MARS model building process, knot positioning is a critical step that potentially affects the accuracy of the final MARS model. Identifying well-positioned knots entails assessing the quality of many knots in each model building iteration, which requires much computation efforts. By exploring the change in the residual sum of squares (RSS) within MARS, we find that local optima from previous iterations can be very close to those of the current iteration. In our approach, the prior change in RSS information is used to “warm …

Statistical Meta-Model For Air Traffic Flow And Capacity Management Based On Airspace Optimization-Simulation: The Continuous Challenge Of The Hub Of The America Congestion, Juan Marcos Castillo Aug 2018

Statistical Meta-Model For Air Traffic Flow And Capacity Management Based On Airspace Optimization-Simulation: The Continuous Challenge Of The Hub Of The America Congestion, Juan Marcos Castillo

Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering Dissertations

Panama is only Country on the Americas with a Canal and the hub of Logistics that include the interaction of the Atlantic and the Pacific in a less than a day. This Logistics growth after the Panama Canal Expansion resulted in an overwhelming growth in Aviation. Furthermore, the economic and Logistic growth at Panama is increasing the demand of air transportation and it is creating potential for Air Logistics. Thus, the air traffic congestion is one of the greatest challenges that the Aviation Industry is seeking to address. The objective of this research is to understand if the Air Traffic …

A Mixed Integer Linear Programming Approach For Developing Salary Administration Systems, Taner Cokyasar Dec 2016

A Mixed Integer Linear Programming Approach For Developing Salary Administration Systems, Taner Cokyasar

Masters Theses

Determining salary increases of executive personnel is a challenging decision process for many companies. Salary administration policies that aid in the determination of salary increases and other compensation benefits have a wide variety of advantages for both a company and its employees. This thesis develops a mathematical programming approach to create a salary administration system that recognizes the importance of performance and potential of employees for future promotions as major components of a salary increase policy for executive personnel. A number of companies all over the world use salary administration systems that integrate work performance and potential for advancement to …

Autonomous Navigation With Obstacle Avoidance For Unmanned Aircraft Systems Using Milp, James A. Devens Jan 2016

Autonomous Navigation With Obstacle Avoidance For Unmanned Aircraft Systems Using Milp, James A. Devens

Theses and Dissertations

Autonomous coordination among multiple aerial vehicles to ensure a collision free airspace is a critical aspect of today’s airspace. With the rise of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the military and commercial sectors, obstacle avoidance in a densely populated airspace is necessary. This thesis investigates finding optimal or near-optimal trajectories in real-time for aircraft in complex airspaces containing a large number of obstacles. The solution for the trajectories is described as a linear program subject to mixed integer constraints, known as a Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP). The resulting MILP problem is solved in real time using a well-known, public …

Truckload Carrier Selection, Routing And Cost Optimization, Zhixin Han Dec 2015

Truckload Carrier Selection, Routing And Cost Optimization, Zhixin Han

Masters Theses

The aim of this thesis was to investigate the routing decision combined with common carrier selection for dedicated contract carriers to reduce full truckload routing cost on pickup and delivery service within time windows in a multiple depots scenario. Mixed Integer Programming and some heuristic algorithms such as the genetic algorithm and annealing algorithm have been successfully used to solve vehicle routing problems for a long time, but researchers seldom simultaneously focus on issues of carrier selection, multiple depots, time window, and the government regulations for a dedicated contract carrier. Therefore, this thesis involved constraints of pickup and delivery with …
