Energy Consumption And Tardiness Improvement For A Flexible Job Shop And A Warehouse, Ahmad Ebrahimi Mar 2021

Energy Consumption And Tardiness Improvement For A Flexible Job Shop And A Warehouse, Ahmad Ebrahimi

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

In recent years, energy consumption (EC) is studied to see its effects on monetary and non-monetary costs in manufacturing and warehousing. EC in manufacturing and warehousing, however, needs to be studied with conventional performance measures such as production/operation tardiness since there is a trade-off between EC and tardiness costs. Therefore, this research is conducted with four objectives to study EC and tardiness for a flexible job shop and a warehouse as follows. The first objective of this research is to integrate job scheduling and layout, which are interrelated in improving EC and tardiness for a flexible job shop. Thus, we …

Throughput And Yield Improvement For A Continuous Discrete-Product Manufacturing System, Md Shahriar J. Hossain Jul 2018

Throughput And Yield Improvement For A Continuous Discrete-Product Manufacturing System, Md Shahriar J. Hossain

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

A seam-welded steel pipe manufacturing process has mainly four distinct major design and/or operational problems dealing with buffer inventory, cutting tools, pipe sizing and inspection-rework facility. The general objective of this research is to optimally solve these four important problems to improve the throughput and yield of the system at a minimum cost.

The first problem of this research finds the optimal buffer capacity of steel strip coils to minimize the maintenance and downtime related costs. The total cost function for this coil feeding system is formulated as a constrained non-linear programming (NLP) problem which is solved with a search …

The Impact Of 5s On The Safety Climate Of Manufacturing Workers, Siddarth Srinivasan Jan 2012

The Impact Of 5s On The Safety Climate Of Manufacturing Workers, Siddarth Srinivasan

LSU Master's Theses

The occupational injury rate in the manufacturing sector is higher than the average of all private industries, necessitating safety studies. Occupational safety can be measured through different approaches. Safety climate, a predictive measure of safety, studies the workers’ perceptions of safety of the workplace. This measure includes several dimensions of safety like management commitment, involvement and work place hazard evaluation and was chosen as a method of evaluation in this study. Even though occupational safety is an important concern, management often prioritizes reducing waste and cost. So, there is a necessity for some technique which reduces waste and simultaneously improves …

Manufacturing And Characterization Of High-Aspect-Ratio Diffusive Micro-Mixers, Vamsidhar Palaparthy Jan 2007

Manufacturing And Characterization Of High-Aspect-Ratio Diffusive Micro-Mixers, Vamsidhar Palaparthy

LSU Master's Theses

In the Ligase Detection Reaction (LDR) technique different chemical reagents of varying concentration are mixed with the by-products of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the detection of low abundant cancer diagnostic markers [1]. An effective micro-mixer which is cheap, durable over a relatively broad range of flows with easy manufacturing is required in this process. This work is aimed at manufacturing mixers according to the required specifications with metrology at every manufacturing process to estimate the limits and tolerances during manufacturing and analyzing their efficiency both numerically and experimentally. An optimum mixer design developed earlier by Maha et.al [2] …
