Advancing Intersection Management By Utilizing Cost Effective Intelligent Vehicle Concepts And Vehicle-To-Infrastructure Communication Techniques, Bernard O. Ibru
Advancing Intersection Management By Utilizing Cost Effective Intelligent Vehicle Concepts And Vehicle-To-Infrastructure Communication Techniques, Bernard O. Ibru
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is a growing field of research which focuses on the alleviation of traffic congestion and road accidents caused by miscommunication or confusion of human drivers. Intelligent Intersection Management is a subdivision of ITS which focuses on the seamless management of vehicles arriving at, traversing and exiting intersections to prevent congestion and collision within or around the intersection. This research sought to develop a cost effective method of implementing wireless Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication based Intelligent Intersection Management, by employing the use of 1:4.5 scale version autonomous vehicle prototypes, on a similarly scaled four-way intersection. This was accomplished …
Data Driven Low-Bandwidth Intelligent Control Of A Jet Engine Combustor, Nathan L. Toner
Data Driven Low-Bandwidth Intelligent Control Of A Jet Engine Combustor, Nathan L. Toner
Open Access Dissertations
This thesis introduces a low-bandwidth control architecture for navigating the input space of an un-modeled combustor system between desired operating conditions while avoiding regions of instability and blow-out. An experimental procedure is discussed for identifying regions of instability and gathering sufficient data to build a data-driven model of the system's operating modes. Regions of instability and blow-out are identified experimentally and a data-driven operating point classifier is designed. This classifier acts as a map of the operating space of the combustor, indicating regions in which the flame is in a "good" or "bad" operating mode. A data-driven predictor is also …
Optimisation Of Stand-Alone Hydrogen-Based Renewable Energy Systems Using Intelligent Techniques, Adel Brka
Optimisation Of Stand-Alone Hydrogen-Based Renewable Energy Systems Using Intelligent Techniques, Adel Brka
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Wind and solar irradiance are promising renewable alternatives to fossil fuels due to their availability and topological advantages for local power generation. However, their intermittent and unpredictable nature limits their integration into energy markets. Fortunately, these disadvantages can be partially overcome by using them in combination with energy storage and back-up units. However, the increased complexity of such systems relative to single energy systems makes an optimal sizing method and appropriate Power Management Strategy (PMS) research priorities.
This thesis contributes to the design and integration of stand-alone hybrid renewable energy systems by proposing methodologies to optimise the sizing and operation …
