Panoramic Video For Efficient Ground Surveillance From Small Unmanned Air Vehicles, Joseph Aaron Jackson Apr 2007

Panoramic Video For Efficient Ground Surveillance From Small Unmanned Air Vehicles, Joseph Aaron Jackson

Theses and Dissertations

As unmanned air vehicle (UAV) utilization increases in Wilderness Search and Rescue (WiSAR) efforts, onboard sensors yielding more information will be desired. UAVs can assist WiSAR efforts by accelerating the ground search process through returning quality aerial footage of the terrain. Additionally, tracking the progress of a search by populating a digital map with video resolution data increases confidence that a comprehensive search of the region has been made. This thesis presents methods for acquiring video from multiple video sensors and fusing them into a single rendered video stream as a Virtual Gimbal. The panoramic video stream is the first ...

Optimizing The High Dynamic Range Imaging Pipeline, Ahmet Oguz Akyuz Jan 2007

Optimizing The High Dynamic Range Imaging Pipeline, Ahmet Oguz Akyuz

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

High dynamic range (HDR) imaging is a rapidly growing field in computer graphics and image processing. It allows capture, storage, processing, and display of photographic information within a scene-referred framework. The HDR imaging pipeline consists of the major steps an HDR image is expected to go through from capture to display. It involves various techniques to create HDR images, pixel encodings and file formats for storage, tone mapping for display on conventional display devices and direct display on HDR capable screens. Each of these stages have important open problems, which need to be addressed for a smoother transition to an ...

Power-Aware Design Methodologies For Fpga-Based Implementation Of Video Processing Systems, Hau Trung Ngo Jan 2007

Power-Aware Design Methodologies For Fpga-Based Implementation Of Video Processing Systems, Hau Trung Ngo

Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Disssertations

The increasing capacity and capabilities of FPGA devices in recent years provide an attractive option for performance-hungry applications in the image and video processing domain. FPGA devices are often used as implementation platforms for image and video processing algorithms for real-time applications due to their programmable structure that can exploit inherent spatial and temporal parallelism. While performance and area remain as two main design criteria, power consumption has become an important design goal especially for mobile devices. Reduction in power consumption can be achieved by reducing the supply voltage, capacitances, clock frequency and switching activities in a circuit. Switching activities ...
