Brain Tumors are abnormal growth of cells within the brain that can be categorized as benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Accurate and timely classification of brain tumors is crucial for effective treatment planning and patient care. Medical imaging techniques like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provide detailed visualizations of brain structures, aiding in diagnosis and tumor classification[8].

In this project, we propose a brain tumor classifier applying deep learning methodologies to automatically classify brain tumor images without any manual intervention. The classifier uses deep learning architectures to extract and classify brain MRI images. Specifically, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) …

Breast Density Classification Using Deep Learning, Conrad Thomas Testagrose Jan 2023

Breast Density Classification Using Deep Learning, Conrad Thomas Testagrose

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Breast density screenings are an accepted means to determine a patient's predisposed risk of breast cancer development. Although the direct correlation is not fully understood, breast cancer risk increases with higher levels of mammographic breast density. Radiologists visually assess a patient's breast density using mammogram images and assign a density score based on four breast density categories outlined by the Breast Imaging and Reporting Data Systems (BI-RADS). There have been efforts to develop automated tools that assist radiologists with increasing workloads and to help reduce the intra- and inter-rater variability between radiologists. In this thesis, I explored two deep-learning-based approaches …

Cnn-Based Semantic Segmentation With Shape Prior Knowledge, Yuhang Lu

Theses and Dissertations

Semantic segmentation that aims at grouping discrete pixels into connected regions is a fundamental step in many high-level computer vision tasks. In recent years, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have made breakthrough progresses in public semantic segmentation benchmarks. The ability of learning from large-scale labeled datasets empowers them to generalize to unseen images better than traditional nonlearning-based methods. Nevertheless, the heavy dependency on labeled data also limits their applications in tasks where high-quality ground truth segmentation masks are scarce or difficult to acquire. In this dissertation, we study the problem of alleviating the data dependency for CNN-based segmentation with a focus …

Deep Multi-Modal U-Net Fusion Methodology Of Infrared And Ultrasonic Images For Porosity Detection In Additive Manufacturing, Christian E. Zamiela

Theses and Dissertations

We developed a deep fusion methodology of non-destructive (NDT) in-situ infrared and ex- situ ultrasonic images for localization of porosity detection without compromising the integrity of printed components that aims to improve the Laser-based additive manufacturing (LBAM) process. A core challenge with LBAM is that lack of fusion between successive layers of printed metal can lead to porosity and abnormalities in the printed component. We developed a sensor fusion U-Net methodology that fills the gap in fusing in-situ thermal images with ex-situ ultrasonic images by employing a U-Net Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for feature extraction and two-dimensional object localization. We …

Deep Convolutional Correlation Particle Filter For Visual Tracking, Reza Jalil Mozhdehi

Dissertations (1934 -)

In this dissertation, we explore the advantages and limitations of the application of sequential Monte Carlo methods to visual tracking, which is a challenging computer vision problem. We propose six visual tracking models, each of which integrates a particle filter, a deep convolutional neural network, and a correlation filter. In our first model, we generate an image patch corresponding to each particle and use a convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract features from the corresponding image region. A correlation filter then computes the correlation response maps corresponding to these features, which are used to determine the particle weights and estimate …

Deep Learning For High-Impedance Fault Detection And Classification, Khushwant Rai Aug 2021

Deep Learning For High-Impedance Fault Detection And Classification, Khushwant Rai

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

High-Impedance Faults (HIFs) are a hazard to public safety but are difficult to detect because of their low current amplitude and diverse characteristics. Supervised machine learning techniques have shown great success in HIF detection; however, these approaches rely on resource-intensive signal processing techniques and fail in presence of non-HIF disturbances and even for scenarios not included in training data. This thesis leverages unsupervised learning and proposes a Convolutional Autoencoder framework for HIF Detection (CAE-HIFD). In CAE-HIFD, Convolutional Autoencoder learns only from HIF signals by employing cross-correlation; consequently, eliminating the need for diverse non-HIF scenarios in training. Furthermore, this thesis proposes …

Sensor Data Based Adaptive Models For Assembly Worker Training In Cyber Manufacturing, Md. Al-Amin

Doctoral Dissertations

“Production innovations are occurring faster than ever leading conventional production systems towards cyber manufacturing. Manufacturing workers thus need to frequently learn new methods and skills. In fast-changing, largely uncertain production systems, manufacturers with the ability to comprehend workers’ behavior and assess their operational performance in near real-time will achieve better performance than peers. Recognizing worker actions in near real-time while performing the assembly can serve this purpose. However, reliably recognizing the assembly actions performed by the workers is challenging, because the actions for assembly are complex and workers are not only heterogeneous but sensitive to the variation of the work …

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are a widely accepted means of solving complex classification and detection problems in imaging and speech. However, problem complexity often leads to considerable increases in computation and parameter storage costs. Many successful attempts have been made in effectively reducing these overheads by pruning and compressing large CNNs with only a slight decline in model accuracy. In this study, two pruning methods are implemented and compared on the CIFAR-10 database and an ECG arrhythmia classification task. Each pruning method employs a pruning phase interleaved with a finetuning phase. It is shown that when performing the scale-factor pruning …

Automated Cleaning Of Identity Label Noise In A Large-Scale Face Dataset Using A Face Image Quality Control, Mohamad Al Jazaery Jan 2018

Automated Cleaning Of Identity Label Noise In A Large-Scale Face Dataset Using A Face Image Quality Control, Mohamad Al Jazaery

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

For face recognition, some very large-scale datasets are publicly available in recent years which are usually collected from the internet using search engines, and thus have many faces with wrong identity labels (outliers). Additionally, the face images in these datasets have different qualities. Since the low quality face images are hard to identify, current automated identity label cleaning methods are not able to detect the identity label error in the low quality faces. Therefore, we propose a novel approach for cleaning the identity label error more low quality faces. Our face identity labels cleaned by our method can train better …
