Analog Cancellation Of A Known Remote Interference: Hardware Realization And Analysis, James M. Doty Nov 2023

Analog Cancellation Of A Known Remote Interference: Hardware Realization And Analysis, James M. Doty

Masters Theses

The onset of quantum computing threatens commonly used schemes for information secrecy across wireless communication channels, particularly key-based data-level encryption. This calls for secrecy schemes that can provide everlasting secrecy resistant to increased computational power of an adversary. One novel physical layer scheme proposes that an intended receiver capable of performing analog cancellation of a known key-based interference would hold a significant advantage in recovering small underlying messages versus an eavesdropper performing cancellation after analog-to-digital conversion. This advantage holds even in the event that an eavesdropper can recover and use the original key in their digital cancellation. Inspired by this …

One-Stage Blind Source Separation Via A Sparse Autoencoder Framework, Jason Anthony Dabin May 2022

One-Stage Blind Source Separation Via A Sparse Autoencoder Framework, Jason Anthony Dabin

Dissertations

Blind source separation (BSS) is the process of recovering individual source transmissions from a received mixture of co-channel signals without a priori knowledge of the channel mixing matrix or transmitted source signals. The received co-channel composite signal is considered to be captured across an antenna array or sensor network and is assumed to contain sparse transmissions, as users are active and inactive aperiodically over time. An unsupervised machine learning approach using an artificial feedforward neural network sparse autoencoder with one hidden layer is formulated for blindly recovering the channel matrix and source activity of co-channel transmissions. The BSS sparse autoencoder …

Channel Estimation And Ici Cancelation In Vehicular Channels Of Ofdm Wireless Communication Systems, Vahid Vahidi

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme increases bandwidth efficiency (BE) of data transmission and eliminates inter symbol interference (ISI). As a result, it has been widely used for wideband communication systems that have been developed during the past two decades and it can be a good candidate for the emerging communication systems such as fifth generation (5G) cellular networks with high carrier frequency and communication systems of high speed vehicles such as high speed trains (HSTs) and supersonic unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs). However, the employment of OFDM for those upcoming systems is challenging because of high Doppler shifts. High Doppler …

Reduced Order Estimation Of Time Varying Wireless Channels In Real Life Scattering Environment, Elena Uchiteleva Aug 2013

Reduced Order Estimation Of Time Varying Wireless Channels In Real Life Scattering Environment, Elena Uchiteleva

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

This thesis deals with theoretical study and numerical simulation of 2x1 MISO system with Alamouti coding and imperfect channel estimation at the receiver. We adopt two channel models to represent scattering environment. One is Sum of Sinusoids model, which is simple, but does not properly reflect the geometry of scattering environment. The second model uses a set of Modulated Discrete Prolate Spheroidal Sequences to represent the channel in a scenario with scattering from one or more clusters with predefined geometry. The effect of clusters location on estimation quality is examined. Furthermore, we derive reduced complexity Wiener filters for slow flat …

Studies On The Performance And Impact Of Channel Estimation In Mimo And Ofdm Systems, Michael David Larsen

Theses and Dissertations

The need for reliable, high-throughput, mobile wireless communication technologies has never been greater as increases in the demand for on-the-go access to information, entertainment, and other electronic services continues. Two such technologies, which are at the forefront of current research efforts, are orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, their union being known simply as MIMO-OFDM. The successful performance of these technologies depends upon the availability of accurate information concerning the wireless communication channel. In this dissertation, several issues related to quality of this channel state information (CSI) are studied. Specifically, the first part of this dissertation …

Advanced Transceiver Algorithms For Ofdm(A) Systems, Hisham A. Mahmoud Mar 2009

Advanced Transceiver Algorithms For Ofdm(A) Systems, Hisham A. Mahmoud

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

With the increasing advancements in the digital technology, future wireless systems are promising to support higher data rates, higher mobile speeds, and wider coverage areas, among other features. While further technological developments allow systems to support higher computational complexity, lower power consumption, and employ larger memory units, other resources remain limited. One such resource, which is of great importance to wireless systems, is the available spectrum for radio communications. To be able to support high data rate wireless applications, there is a need for larger bandwidths in the spectrum. Since the spectrum cannot be expanded, studies have been concerned with …

On The Effects Of Estimation Error And Jitter In Ultra-Wideband Communication , Greta Grizzard May 2007

On The Effects Of Estimation Error And Jitter In Ultra-Wideband Communication , Greta Grizzard

All Theses

The opening of the 3.6 - 10.1 GHz frequency spectrum below the 'noise-floor' by the FCC in 2002 has made possible the prospect of reusing this frequency spectrum through ultra-wideband (UWB) communication. In this thesis, we compare the performance of several UWB systems in the presence of estimation error and jitter. We then develop two alternative decision schemes to combat the effect of jitter in the UWB system. Numerical results show that one of the schemes provides significantly better performance in the presence of severe jitter than maximal ratio combining and minimal degradation of performance if jitter is not present. …

A State-Space Approach To Blind Estimation Of Mimo Wireless Channels, Hesham Mahmoud Zarif Amin Badr Jan 2006

A State-Space Approach To Blind Estimation Of Mimo Wireless Channels, Hesham Mahmoud Zarif Amin Badr

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on blind channel estimation in wireless communications such that the estimated channel admits the minimum phase property. It assumes only the second order statistics of the transmitted signal at the receive side. Our proposed approach is based on the generalized spectral factorization because of the deficient normal rank for the power spectral density (PSD) function of the received signal. We will show the relationship between the generalized spectral factorization and inner-outer factorizations where the inner is square with smaller size. The inner-outer factorization is in turn related to the generalized Kalman filtering in which the dimension of …

Transceiver Design And System Optimization For Ultra-Wideband Communications, Hongshan Sheng

Dissertations

This dissertation investigates the potential promises and proposes possible solutions to the challenges of designing transceivers and optimizing system parameters in ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. The goal is to provide guidelines for UWB transceiver implementations under constraints by regulation, existing interference, and channel estimation.

New UWB pulse shapes are invented that satisfy the Federal Communications Commission spectral mask. Parameters are designed to possibly implement the proposed pulses. A link budget is quantified based on an accurate frequency-dependent path loss calculation to account for variations across the ultra-wide bandwidth of the signal.

Achievable information rates are quantified as a function of transmission …

Adaptive Ds-Cdma Multiuser Detection For Time Variant Frequency Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel, Xin Tang

Dissertations

The current digital wireless mobile system such as IS-95, which is based on direct sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) technology, will not be able to meet the growing demands for multimedia service due to low information exchanging rate. Its capacity is also limited by multiple accessed interference (MAI) signals.

This work focuses on the development of adaptive algorithms for multiuser detection (MUD) and interference suppression for wideband direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems over time-variant frequency selective fading channels. In addition, channel acquisition and delay estimation techniques are developed to combat the uncertainty introduced by the wireless …

Em-Based Iterative Channel Estimation And Sequence Detection For Space-Time Coded Modulation, Zbigniew Baranski

Dissertations

Reliable detection of signals transmitted over a wireless communication channel requires knowledge of the channel estimate. In this work, the application of expectationmaximization (EM) algorithm to estimation of unknown channel and detection of space-time coded modulation (STCM) signals is investigated. An STCM communication system is presented which includes symbol interleaving at the transmitter and iterative EM-based soft-output decoding at the receiver. The channel and signal model are introduced with a quasi-static and time-varying Rayleigh fading channels considered to evaluate the performance of the communication system. Performance of the system employing Kalman filter with per-survivor processing to do the channel estimation …
