The Allocation Of Micro-Grid Energy Storage System Considering Controlling Parameter, Ting Hu May 2018

The Allocation Of Micro-Grid Energy Storage System Considering Controlling Parameter, Ting Hu

Theses and Dissertations

This research proposes a novel method of how to integrate controlling parameters, voltage and frequency, into to the energy storage system (ESS) allocation in a microgrid with renewable sources. The goal is to use the sensitivity analysis to find the most effective bus where the ESS should be in-stored to minimize the fluctuations both in terms of voltage and frequency. Indicators, such as SAIDI and SAIFI, are used to measure system reliability after the optimum size and location of ESS are determined.

A Quantitative Environmental Assessment Of Incorporating Torrefaction Into Farming Enterprises In Eastern South Dakota, Dinesh Fuyal Jan 2018

A Quantitative Environmental Assessment Of Incorporating Torrefaction Into Farming Enterprises In Eastern South Dakota, Dinesh Fuyal

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The use of renewable energy sources has been increasing in the recent years due to population growth and environmental concerns. Biomass is a promising energy source that can be used to produce biofuels or torrefied pellets. Torrefied biomass may be used in power plants, industrial and residential heating, feedstocks for gasification, air and water filtrating, and soil amendment. The interest of torrefied pellets as energy sources for various applications has been increased in the recent years due to the concerns about energy security and environmental issues. This study focuses on the economic and environmental assessment of agricultural feedstocks like corn …

Using The Delta-Model For End-Stage Liver Disease To Improve The Decision-Making Process For The Donor Liver System, Joanne Chin Jan 2015

Using The Delta-Model For End-Stage Liver Disease To Improve The Decision-Making Process For The Donor Liver System, Joanne Chin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The purpose of this experimental research was to determine whether using delta-MELD as a criterion for the liver transplant patient selection process could improve the U.S. liver allocation system. This research closed a gap in current literature on the utility of delta-MELD for liver transplant patient selection. The frameworks of systems theory, the analytic hierarchy process, and the Kalman filter contributed to the development of 2 simulation models of the liver allocation system: one that used delta-MELD and one that did not use delta-MELD. The research question examined whether using delta-MELD could improve the liver allocation system by reducing the …

Automated Scratchpad Mapping And Allocation For Embedded Processors, Yang Gao Dec 2014

Automated Scratchpad Mapping And Allocation For Embedded Processors, Yang Gao

Theses and Dissertations

Embedded system-on-chip processors such as the Texas Instruments C66 DSP and the IBM Cell provide the programmer with a software controlled on-chip memory to supplement a traditional but simple two-level cache. By decomposing data sets and their corresponding workload into small subsets that fit within this on-chip memory, the processor can potentially achieve equivalent or better performance, power efficiency, and area efficiency than with its sophisticated cache. However, program controlled on chip memory requires a shift in the responsibility for management and allocation from the hardware to the programmer. Specifically, this requires the explicit mapping of program arrays to specific …

Development Of A Public Education Website: Building Bridges Over Water, Angelina Mckee Jul 2014

Development Of A Public Education Website: Building Bridges Over Water, Angelina Mckee

Agricultural Education and Communication

Website created by Angelina McKee to educate the public about water resource issues. Water is the basic unit of life, water resources are the basis for what societies and ecosystems are founded upon. Water shortages and droughts are more prevalent in our ever-changing world. It is no shock that there are discrepancies between various stockholders on either sides of the dry riverbed. This senior project resulted in the development of a website that addresses global water resources, water use in California, water conservation, and water allocation. The website informs the public on water resources and related issues and will hopefully …

Snail Algorithm For Task Allocation In Mesh Networks, Bartosz Duszel Dec 2013

Snail Algorithm For Task Allocation In Mesh Networks, Bartosz Duszel

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Topic of this master's thesis is connected with task allocation algorithms and mesh networks. Author of this work has already graduated from Wroclaw, University of Technology (Poland) where during his studies he created software simulation environment for two different task allocation algorithms for mesh networks:Adaptive ScanandFrame Sliding. Those algorithms were compared by two, main parame- ters: simulation time and average mesh fulfillment (utilization level). All simulations were done in software environment which was developed specially for that research. This application was based on few, different types of objects: task (width, height, processing time), task queue (different number of tasks), task …

A Conforming Method For Regional Marginal Loss Surplus Allocation, Xiaolong Wang Jan 2013

A Conforming Method For Regional Marginal Loss Surplus Allocation, Xiaolong Wang

Masters Theses

"The marginal transmission loss model is used in electricity markets across the United States to measure a resource's marginal contribution to system loss. This model prices loss into the locational marginal price as a marginal loss component. Marginal loss pricing will render a net revenue surplus within an energy balanced system. This marginal loss surplus (MLS) is typically allocated back to scheduling coordinators in proportion to the measured demand on a system-wide basis. However, when the system experiences heterogeneous loss across different regions, the system-wide allocation method fails to recognize the regional differences in actual loss costs. As a result, …

Method Of Tolerance Allocation To Maintain Rotary Balance Of Multi-Component Bodies, Lindsay Louise Rogers Apr 2011

Method Of Tolerance Allocation To Maintain Rotary Balance Of Multi-Component Bodies, Lindsay Louise Rogers

Master's Theses (2009 -)

Vibration of rotating machinery caused by mass imbalance is the most frequent source of unwanted disturbing forces and also the most preventable. In the case of a CT scanner, unwanted vibration in the equipment causes artifacts to the X-ray image, and therefore all measures are taken to eliminate imbalance. The CT scanner is a multi-component rotating body, therefore making it a challenge to account for many discrete components, each with unique variation. This research developed the equations for static and dynamic balance including considerations for inertia. The variation of the components was studied using two models: a sensitivity analysis and …

Resource Allocation And Efficient Routing In Wireless Networks, Jianjun Yang Jan 2011

Resource Allocation And Efficient Routing In Wireless Networks, Jianjun Yang

University of Kentucky Doctoral Dissertations

In wireless networks, devices (nodes) are connected by wireless links. An important issue is to set up high quality (high bandwidth) and efficient routing paths when one node wants to send packets to other nodes. Resource allocation is the foundation to guarantee high quality connections. In addition, it is critical to handle void areas in order to set up detour-free paths. Moreover, fast message broadcasting is essential in mobile wireless networks. Thus, my research includes dynamic channel allocation in wireless mesh networks, geographic routing in Ad Hoc networks, and message broadcasting in vehicular networks.

The quality of connections in a …

Implementing Rfid To Improve Animal Shelter Inventory And Allocation, Adam Mach Jan 2010

Implementing Rfid To Improve Animal Shelter Inventory And Allocation, Adam Mach

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The purpose of this project is to observe the best way to incorporate Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology into the animal inventory system present in animal shelters, while also observing the benefits of implementing this system. The Woods Humane Society was used in this project as a sample animal care facility that could benefit from this application.

Many RFID systems can be observed in other industries, but very few examples this technology exist in animal shelters or smaller animal care facilities. Part of the reason for that is because funds are scarce at most animal care facilities, like the Woods …
