Flight Test Data System For Strain Measurement, Zachary David Wilson
Flight Test Data System For Strain Measurement, Zachary David Wilson
Master's Theses
This thesis describes the design and evaluation of two devices to be included in the next generation of the family of devices called the Boundary Layer Data System (BLDS). The first device, called the Quasi-Static Strain Data Acquisition System, is a continuation of the BLDS-M series of devices to be known as the Flight Test Data System (FTDS) that uses a modular approach to acquire non-flow, quasi-static mechanical strain measurements. Various breakout boards and development boards were used to synthesize the device, which were housed by a custom PCB board. The system is controlled by the SimbleeTM System on …
Neurostimulator With Waveforms Inspired By Nature For Wearable Electro-Acupuncture, Jose Aquiles Parodi Amaya
Neurostimulator With Waveforms Inspired By Nature For Wearable Electro-Acupuncture, Jose Aquiles Parodi Amaya
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The work presented here has 3 goals: establish the need for novel neurostimulation waveform solutions through a literature review, develop a neurostimulation pulse generator, and verify the operation of the device for neurostimulation applications.
The literature review discusses the importance of stimulation waveforms on the outcomes of neurostimulation, and proposes new directions for neurostimulation research that would help in improving the reproducibility and comparability between studies.
The pulse generator circuit is then described that generates signals inspired by the shape of excitatory or inhibitory post-synaptic potentials (EPSP, IPSP). The circuit analytical equations are presented, and the effects of the circuit …
Autonomous Watercraft Simulation And Programming, Nicholas J. Savino
Autonomous Watercraft Simulation And Programming, Nicholas J. Savino
Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects
Automation of various modes of transportation is thought to make travel more safe and efficient. Over the past several decades advances to semi-autonomous and autonomous vehicles have led to advanced autopilot systems on planes and boats and an increasing popularity of self-driving cars. We simulated the motion of an autonomous vehicle using computational models. The simulation models the motion of a small-scale watercraft, which can then be built and programmed using an Arduino Microcontroller. We examined different control methods for a simulated rescue craft to reach a target. We also examined the effects of different factors, such as various biases …
Automated Greenhouse Watering System For Schenectady Arc, Lisa Gu
Automated Greenhouse Watering System For Schenectady Arc, Lisa Gu
Honors Theses
All people need to feel useful and able to perform productive jobs. Since 1952, the ARC has strived to provide people with developmental disabilities the resources, services, and support that enable them to advocate and participate within their communities. One way in which the ARC accomplishes this mission is by encouraging people with disabilities to develop skills and hobbies that give them independence and purpose. An integral part of their center is the greenhouse. Individuals at the Maple Ridge Center are responsible for operating the water system to irrigate the plot daily and ensuring that the proper amount of water …
A Bioinstrumentation Active Learning Educational Module: The Design Of A Working Temperature Sensor Using A Ntc Thermistor, Baylor Bush
Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arkansas has continued to develop over the years, with more students enrolling in the program each year. Within the first biomedical engineering course, Introduction to Biomedical Engineering, various topics are introduced to students, and the topic of bioinstrumentation has been one of the most complex and difficult topics for students to comprehend through just a few lectures. In order to aid students in grasping these intricate concepts, an active learning module was developed in which students can work in groups to build a simple thermistor circuit as a temperature sensor. The …
An Evaluation Of Two Controller Implementations For An Inverted Pendulum On Cart System, Shaima Abdul Wahab Ali Al Habsi
An Evaluation Of Two Controller Implementations For An Inverted Pendulum On Cart System, Shaima Abdul Wahab Ali Al Habsi
Electrical Engineering Theses
Various embedded systems are available for control system design and implementation in either lab experiments of postgraduate and undergraduate courses in the area of dynamics and control, or in experimental academic research. The focus of this Master thesis project is set to study, compare and evaluate the performance of two options of controller implementations ranging from a low-cost microcontroller based embedded system to a relatively high-end, high-cost controller prototyping system. In the work reported here, the Arduino® DUE board, which is an Atmel ARM Cortex CPU based, and the dSPACE® DS1104 prototyping system are used. Another objective of the …
An Airlifted Tidal Mesocosm For Oil Degradation Studies, Daniel Christopher Alt
An Airlifted Tidal Mesocosm For Oil Degradation Studies, Daniel Christopher Alt
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Mesocosms were constructed to allow scientists to isolate variables in a microtidal marsh environment, mimicking the natural conditions found in Terrebonne Bay. The control offered by these mesocosms is given by a process control system that takes user inputs and automates water movement. Twelve mesocosms were constructed, each holding 4.02 m3 (142 ft3) of marsh soil and 3.88 m3 (137 ft3) of water to give 3 experimental levels and a control, all in triplicate.
Each mesocosms that was constructed contained marsh plants in soil plugs 9 feet in diameter and 3 feet deep. These …
Dual-Axis Solar Tracker, Alazone Smith
Dual-Axis Solar Tracker, Alazone Smith
All Undergraduate Projects
The global energy crisis and continued supporting evidence of global climate change have begun to shift the world economies towards solutions that solve both challenges. Solar power has become one of the most recognizable and popularized renewable energy methods to date. In comparison to other photovoltaic systems, this project demonstrates the performance advantages of a dual-axis solar tracker. It also addressing its viability on a non-commercial scale. The objective was to improve upon previous solar tracker projects at Central Washington University by adding another axis to the system. This system implements both an actuator and a stepper motor to examine …
Wireless Charging And Data Communication Of An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Shang-Kai Wei
Wireless Charging And Data Communication Of An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Shang-Kai Wei
All ETDs from UAB
Wireless charging system in current market usually uses Class D oscillator in the transceiver side, however, this design is highly power consumption and low transfer efficiency. In this report, Class E oscillator is used to decrease the power consumption. Class E oscillator is perfectly zero voltage switching and high transfer efficiency. To increase the wireless transfer efficiency, spiral PCB inductor is also used as the wireless charging pad. Spiral PCB inductor usually uses for RF circuit with high accurately, moreover, the inductance and Q-factor is higher than current wireless charging coil with Litz or magnetic wire. In the receiver side, …
