Smartwalker – Rolling Walker Instrumentation And Data Acquisition System Development To Monitor, Visualize And Store Rolling Walker Usage Data, Mauricio Jaguan Nieves

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses

The Smart Walker project was designed to fill a necessity of monitoring in real time the use of rolling walkers (RW) and study the causes that contribute to the high rate of fallings among its users. The main objectives of the project were to measure the major forces applied by RW users in real time and store it safely for further analysis. The first prototype of the Smart Walker includes the measurement of axial load, torque and gripping force applied on the handle as well as acceleration and rotation angles while it is being used. The axial load was measured …

Exploring Spin-Transfer-Torque Devices And Memristors For Logic And Memory Applications, Zoha Pajouhi Aug 2016

Exploring Spin-Transfer-Torque Devices And Memristors For Logic And Memory Applications, Zoha Pajouhi

Open Access Dissertations

As scaling CMOS devices is approaching its physical limits, researchers have begun exploring newer devices and architectures to replace CMOS.

Due to their non-volatility and high density, Spin Transfer Torque (STT) devices are among the most prominent candidates for logic and memory applications. In this research, we first considered a new logic style called All Spin Logic (ASL). Despite its advantages, ASL consumes a large amount of static power; thus, several optimizations can be performed to address this issue. We developed a systematic methodology to perform the optimizations to ensure stable operation of ASL.

Second, we investigated reliable design of …

Adaptive Torque Control Of A Robotic Manipulator, Drew F. Waller Aug 2016

Adaptive Torque Control Of A Robotic Manipulator, Drew F. Waller

Electrical Engineering Theses

In this thesis, I present the theory and application of enabling intuitive control and physical interaction between a human operator and a mobile manipulator. To do so, the model of the manipulator was estimated for its kinematic and inertial properties. Specifically selected in this project was the Kuka youBot for its ease of use and wide academic availability. With thorough modeling of this device that included the arm as well as the base, and advanced control and guidance techniques, an adaptive controller was used to guide the manipulator towards a goal trajectory with great accuracy. The goal trajectory was built …

The Design And Construction Of A Torque Measuring Arm For An Air Motor, Logan Dearinger Jan 2016

The Design And Construction Of A Torque Measuring Arm For An Air Motor, Logan Dearinger

All Undergraduate Projects

There is a system efficiency lab that sits in the thermodynamics lab of the Mechanical Engineering Technologies department. To expand this lab, a torque measuring device was needed to measure the torsional force that the pump exerts on the air motor. The expansion of this lab is important to give a better understanding of how the different mechanical parts effect the efficiency of the overall system. The first step in the expansion process was the design of a suitable torque measuring device. The most efficient design was a simple one with minimal moving parts. When the air motor is energized …

Met 314 Torque Measurement, Jose Bejar Jan 2016

Met 314 Torque Measurement, Jose Bejar

All Undergraduate Projects

As part of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program, students are required to take a Thermodynamics class. In this class one of the labs they do consists of an air motor running a water pump. The professor teaching that class wanted a device that would fit within the lab rig which would calculate the torque produced by the motor. Therefore this project consists of building a device that will allow the case (body) of the air motor to fully rotate opposite to the rotation of the shaft in order to measure the torque the motor produces at certain revolutions per minute. …
