A Program Manager's Dilemma: Measuring The Effect On Performance Of Different Visual Modalities In Mixed Reality Aerial Door Gunnery, Jonathan Stevens Jan 2014

A Program Manager's Dilemma: Measuring The Effect On Performance Of Different Visual Modalities In Mixed Reality Aerial Door Gunnery, Jonathan Stevens

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The United States Army continues to develop new and effective ways to use simulation for training. One example is the Non-Rated Crew Member Manned Module (NCM3), a simulator designed to train helicopter crewmembers in critical, high risk tasks such as crew coordination, flight, aerial gunnery, hoist and sling load related tasks. The goal of this study was to evaluate visual modalities' effect on performance in mixed reality aerial door gunnery. There is a strong belief in the United States Army that the greater the degree of immersion in a virtual simulation, the more effective that simulation is. However, little scientific …

A Framework For Assessing The Quality And Effectiveness Of A National Employment System: A Case Study Of Saudi Arabia, Hemaid Alsulami Jan 2014

A Framework For Assessing The Quality And Effectiveness Of A National Employment System: A Case Study Of Saudi Arabia, Hemaid Alsulami

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

National employment systems have been established in several countries to tackle the unemployment dilemma between citizens while the labor market flooded by expatriates. Lack of performance measurement indices among these systems caused failure to provide jobs to citizens and caused a state of confusion and dissatisfaction among employing entities. In Saudi Arabia, unemployment rate has increased in the last few decades and have since become a very political issue for the Saudi government. Compared to other countries, the problem is different since many expatriates in Saudi Arabia are already employed in their markets while citizens are seeking jobs. In Saudi …

Assessing The Effectiveness Of Workload Measures In The Nuclear Domain, Joseph Mercado Jan 2014

Assessing The Effectiveness Of Workload Measures In The Nuclear Domain, Joseph Mercado

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An operator's performance and mental workload when interacting with a complex system, such as the main control room (MCR) of a nuclear power plant (NPP), are major concerns when seeking to accomplish safe and successful operations. The impact of performance on operator workload is one of the most widely researched areas in human factors science with over five hundred workload articles published since the 1960s (Brannick, Salas, & Prince, 1997; Meshkati & Hancock, 2011). Researchers have used specific workload measures across domains to assess the effects of taskload. However, research has not sufficiently assessed the psychometric properties, such as reliability, …
