Modeling And Control Of Surface Micromachined Thermal Actuators, Robert K. Messenger
Modeling And Control Of Surface Micromachined Thermal Actuators, Robert K. Messenger
Theses and Dissertations
A model that accurately describes the transient and steady-state response of thermal microactuators is desirable to provide guidance for design and operation. However, modeling the full response of thermal actuators is challenging due to the temperature-dependent material properties and nonlinear deformations that must be included to obtain accurate results. To meet these challenges a three-dimensional multi-physics nonlinear finite-element model was developed using commercial code. The Thermomechanical Inplane Microactuator (TIM) was chosen as a candidate application to validate the model. TIMs were fabricated using the SUMMiT V™ process and their response was measured using a high-speed camera. The TIMs were modeled …
Structural Design And Analysis Of A Rigidizable Space Shuttle Experiment, Raymond G. Holstein Iii
Structural Design And Analysis Of A Rigidizable Space Shuttle Experiment, Raymond G. Holstein Iii
Theses and Dissertations
AFIT is in the process of designing a Space Shuttle experiment designated as the Rigidized Inflatable Get-Away-Special Experiment (RIGEX) to study the effects of microgravity on the deployment of rigidizable composite structures. Once in space, the experiment will inflate and rigidize three composite structures and perform a vibration analysis on each by exciting the tubes using piezoelectric patches and collecting data via an accelerometer. This paper presents the structural and vibration analysis of the RIGEX assembly and inflatable composite tubes using ABAQUS Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software. Comparison of the analysis has been carried out with Eigenvalue/Eigenvector experimentation by means …
Analysis And Modeling Of The Eds Maglev System Based On The Halbach Permanent Magnet Array, Qinghua Han
Analysis And Modeling Of The Eds Maglev System Based On The Halbach Permanent Magnet Array, Qinghua Han
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Electro-dynamic suspension (EDS) Magnetic levitation (Maglev) with its advantage in maintenance, safety, efficiency, speed, and noise is regarded as a leading candidate for the next generation transportation / space launch assist system. The Halbach array due to its unique magnetic field feature has been widely used in various applications. The EDS system using Halbach arrays leads to the potential EDS system without super-conductor (SC) technology. In this thesis, the Halbach array magnetic field and the dynamics of a novel Halbach array EDS Maglev system were considered. The practical Halbach array magnetic field was analyzed using both a Fourier series approach …
The Spectral Conforming Model And Its Applications, Jaeho Shim
The Spectral Conforming Model And Its Applications, Jaeho Shim
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
It has been observed that finite element or finite difference model of order can approximate with fair accuracy less than one-third of the eigenvalues of the underlying continuous system corresponding to the low spectrum. The new discrete model, namely the spectral conforming model, is developed to predict the eigenvalues of continuous systems in both the low and high spectra. The spectral conforming models are developed using an inverse vibration method. The classical vibration problem is the direct method. In the direct approach, the characteristic behaviors of the system, i.e. frequency response, natural frequency, and steady state response are analyzed and …
