Roc Analysis Of Ir Segmentation Techniques, Georgia K. Harrup Dec 1994

Roc Analysis Of Ir Segmentation Techniques, Georgia K. Harrup

Theses and Dissertations

Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves are used to compare the effectiveness of IR image processing techniques. Two non-parametric error estimation techniques (k-Nearest Neighbor and Parzen Window) are used to create estimates of the probability density functions for the data. These pdfs are used in the creation of the ROC curves for both resubstitution and leave-one-out estimates. These estimates generate the upper and lower bounds, respectively, on the ROC curves. The ROC curve analysis is performed on the outputs of various image processing techniques and the resulting ROC curves are used to compare the techniques. Of the image processing techniques used …

Multispectral Detection Of Ground Targets In Highly Correlated Backgrounds, Jason E. Thomas Dec 1994

Multispectral Detection Of Ground Targets In Highly Correlated Backgrounds, Jason E. Thomas

Theses and Dissertations

Multispectral detection methods attempt to discriminate targets in a dominant clutter background using multiple images of the same real-world scene taken in different narrow spectral bands in the infrared. Detection is possible due to the empirically observed phenomenon that the radiance of man-made objects, such as a tank or truck, often lies off the main spectral correlation axis of that of natural backgrounds. Radiometric measurements of several vehicles and a tree canopy background taken over three days in June. 1994 were used to examine the factors affecting multispectral detection. Results clearly showed that the processes which provide for higher spectral …

Life Cycle Costs Of Alternatives For F-16 Printed Circuit Board Diagnosis Equipment, Kent R. Montgomery, Clifford B. Thorstenson Dec 1994

Life Cycle Costs Of Alternatives For F-16 Printed Circuit Board Diagnosis Equipment, Kent R. Montgomery, Clifford B. Thorstenson

Theses and Dissertations

This study analyzes two alternatives for printed circuit board (PCB) diagnosis for the F-16 depot PCB repair shop from a life cycle cost (LCC) perspective. Alternative 1 assumes the use of the current F-16 automatic test equipment (ATE) while Alternative 2 augments the current ATE with infrared imaging test equipment. Infrared imaging is a developed technology that is currently available to the Air Force in a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) form. Using the Cost Analysis and Strategy Assessment (CASA) Life Cycle Cost (LCC) Model and data from the DL41 database on F-16 PCBs this study determined that over the current expected life …
