Standardization Of No-Passing Zone Pavement Markings, Glen Nickolas Hackmann Jan 1948

Standardization Of No-Passing Zone Pavement Markings, Glen Nickolas Hackmann

Professional Degree Theses

"This thesis is a comprehensive treatment of present methods practiced by the various Highway Departments in the United States. It presents in particular current methods used by the State Highway Departments and the Public Roads Administration in marking no-passing zones throughout the country. For a long time it has seemed to the author that such a study was needed by both students and highway engineers. Road-design information of great value has developed over the years and often has been published but never assembled in a single orderly presentation stripped of excessive overlapping"--Preface, page ii.

The Mechanical Anchorage Value Of The Transverse Wires In Welded Wire Reinforcement Fabric, Ernst August Weinel Jan 1948

The Mechanical Anchorage Value Of The Transverse Wires In Welded Wire Reinforcement Fabric, Ernst August Weinel

Masters Theses

"The tests reported in this paper were performed in an effort to secure data concerning characteristic properties of Welded Wire Reinforcement Fabric. This fabric has been used, up to the present time, primarily for temperature reinforcement. Limited attention has been focused on its potentialities for use as main tension reinforcing steel, particularly concrete highway slabs and floor slab reinforcement for buildings. The manufacturers of the Welded Wire Reinforcement Fabric believe their product can be used to better advantage as main tension reinforcement in reinforced concrete structures both from an economic and structural viewpoint, than structural steel reinforcing bars"--Object of Research, …

They are rapidly losing this vital and important function of their transportation service. Following, is a brief history of the railroads along with a discussion of their present day problems dealing with less-than-car-load freight service. It is believed, by the author, that a system of developing and using containers and container cars along with a pick up and delivery service will solve these problems the railroads now experience. If this method of freight transport would be adopted by the railroads, not …
