Lipid Production By Microalgae Treating Municipal Wastewater, James Edward Kelley
Lipid Production By Microalgae Treating Municipal Wastewater, James Edward Kelley
Master's Theses
Microalgae hold much promise as a feedstock in liquid biofuel production. Lipid content of microalgae cells range from 30-80% dry weight of biomass. It is projected that microalgae can produce between 1,000-6,500 gallons/acre/year of oil. Currently, production of industrial algae operates in open raceway ponds that use minimal capital and energy inputs to culture algae. Raceway ponds can also be used to grow microalgae from municipal waste streams. Although high biomass productivity can be achieved in these systems, there remains a large production gap between large volumes of biomass cultivation and high lipid content from microalgae cells. Low lipid content …
Design, Construction And Cost Analysis Of Manufacturing Horse Bits, Erica L. Timmermans
Design, Construction And Cost Analysis Of Manufacturing Horse Bits, Erica L. Timmermans
BioResource and Agricultural Engineering
This report discusses the design, fabrication and cost analysis of two unique horse bits. On the market today, there are many different kinds of bits to serve a multitude of purposes. However, this project explored the option of having two different shanks types made of stainless steel in addition to three mouthpieces that are able to fit in both types of shanks.
Design And Development Of A Stair Ascension Assistive Device For Transfemoral Amputees, Casey Michael Barbarino
Design And Development Of A Stair Ascension Assistive Device For Transfemoral Amputees, Casey Michael Barbarino
Master's Theses
Transfemoral amputees around the world experience increased difficulty in climbing stairs due to lack of muscle, balance, and other factors. The loss of a lower limb greatly diminishes the amount of natural force generation provided that is necessary to propel oneself up stairs. This study investigated possible solutions to the problem of stair ascension for transfemoral amputees by the means of designing and developing an externally attachable device to a prosthesis. The number of amputations from military service has greatly increased since 2008, which shows there is a clear need for assistive devices (Wenke, Krueger, & Ficke, 2012). With the …
Settling Performance In Wastewater Fed High Rate Algae Ponds, Elliott Blake Ripley
Settling Performance In Wastewater Fed High Rate Algae Ponds, Elliott Blake Ripley
Master's Theses
Although high rate algae ponds (HRAPs) are a proven wastewater treatment technology with numerous environmental, social, and economic benefits, their widespread use has been hindered by inconsistent and unreliable settling performance. Hence, the goal of this thesis is to investigate how specific operational parameters affect the settling performance of HRAPs. Nine HRAPs (30 m2 surface area, 0.3 m depth) were operated as three triplicate sets, with each set run on either a 2, 3, or 4 day HRT continuously from January 25, 2012 through April 11, 2013. Settling performance was determined (i) by measuring the TSS of Imhoff cone …
