Makara Journal of Technology

X-ray diffraction techniques were performed to determine the actual crystal structure of A2 austenitic stainless steel (ASS) as-cast and A2 ASS after arc plasma sintering (APS) for 2 s. Computations were conducted on the basis of the Bragg arithmetic formula by comparing the S2 arithmetic with the interplanar spacing. The Bragg arithmetic formula is a simple series for the determination of the crystalline phase of materials based on the Miller indices of cubic shapes or other shapes. A2 ASS as-cast was identified to have a crystal structure of face-centered cubic with lattice parameter a = 3.58 Å. A similar crystal …

Raman Spectrum Characteristic And Structural Evolution Of High Rank Coalscryptocrystalline Graphite, Li Huantong, Wang Nan, Zhu Zhirong, Fan Jingjing, Zhang Weiguo

Coal Geology & Exploration

Raman spectroscopy can reflect the order degree and structural defects of carbon materials, and can be used to characterize the structural changes during the evolution of high rank coal-cryptocrystalline graphite, and analyze the relationship between Raman parameters of coal with different deformation and metamorphic degrees and the spacing of surface network(d002). The results showed that: (1) there was stepped variation between the G peak position and d002, but the graphite and high rank coal could be distinguished well. The S2 peak, the full width at half maximum of D1 and G had a good linear relationship with d002; (2) the …

Investigation On Structural Evolution And Thermal Reaction Of Coal-Based Graphite From Xinhua County, Hunan Province, Li Kuo, Liu Qinfu, Song Botao, Zhang Shuai, Wu Yingke

Coal Geology & Exploration

To investigate the structural evolution and thermal reaction of coal-based graphite with different graphitization, the anthracite and coal-based graphite from Xinhua County, Hunan were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transformation electron microscope(HRTEM), and temperature programmed oxidation (TPO). The results show that carbon structure transformed from the amorphous anthracite to three dimensionally ordered graphite as graphitization degree increases. The coal-based graphite samples with different graphitization degree are composed of multi carbon phases, suggesting a heterogeneous nature of coal-based graphite, and ordered carbon phases were common in higher rank samples, however, defects can still be detected in most metamorphosed coal-based graphite. …

Development Of Layered Zn-Fe Coatings For Better Corrosion Protection, R S. Bhat, R Udupak, A C. Hegde

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

In this research, the Zn-Fe coating having successive layers of alloys of two different compositions were developed alternatively on mild steel for better corrosion protection. The multilayer coatings, or alternatively, composition modulated alloy (CMA) coatings of different configurations have been developed, and their corrosion behaviors were evaluated by electrochemical DC and AC methods. The cyclic cathode current densities and numbers of layers have been optimised for peak corrosion stability of the coatings. Under optimal condition, the CMA coating having 300 layers, having about 67 nm average thickness was found to be approximately six times higher corrosion resistant than monolayer coating …

An Investigation Of Microstructural Change Of Low Alloy Steel Aisi 4150 By Seebeck Coefficient, T Samran, P Termsuksawad

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

Low alloyed steels, whose hardness can be modified by heat treatment, have been widely used in various applications. After heat treatment, they are normally destructively characterized and tested by many approaches via optical microscope and hardness testing. It is useful to develop a non-destructive method relating to its properties and microstructures. The proposed non-destructive approach in this study is the Seebeck coefficient measurement. The materials in this study were carbon steels AISI 4150 rod with a diameter of 1.3 cm and length of 3 cm. The specimens were heat-treated at 900ºC for 1 hour and were then cooled to room …

The sheet resistance of nickel silicide in both regions was measured to be 0.45Ω/o — 0.5Ω/o. Nickel silicide was also integrated into an RIT NMOSFET process where silicide was formed over the S/D and polysilicon gate regions. Rutherford Backscatter and x-ray diffraction data showed the formation of NiSi phase in the S/D …

Characterization And Electrochemical Investigation Of Boron-Doped Mesocarbon Microbeads Anode Materials For Lithium-Ion Battery, Mao-Hui Chen, Guo-Tao Wu, Guang-Ming Zhu, Jin-Kua You, Zu-Geng Lin Aug 2001

Characterization And Electrochemical Investigation Of Boron-Doped Mesocarbon Microbeads Anode Materials For Lithium-Ion Battery, Mao-Hui Chen, Guo-Tao Wu, Guang-Ming Zhu, Jin-Kua You, Zu-Geng Lin

Journal of Electrochemistry

The anodic performances of boron doped and undoped mesocarbon microbeads(MCMBs) were comparatively studied and the structures were characterized by XPS,SEM,XRD and electrochemical measurements. It was found that boron doping samples greatly increased the degree of graphitization and the crystallite size, leading to quite different morphology. Electrochemical discharge/charge cycle tests indicate that lithium intercalation occurred at a little higher potential for the boron doped MCMBs, being attended by greater irreversible capacity loss.

Microstructure And Electrochemical Properties Of The Melt_Spinning Zr_(0.9)Ti_(0.1) (Ni,Co,Mn,V)_(2.1) Alloy, Ming-Fen Wen, Yu-Chun Zhai, Lian Chen, Min Tong, Hua Zhen, Rong-Jun Ma Aug 2001

Microstructure And Electrochemical Properties Of The Melt_Spinning Zr_(0.9)Ti_(0.1) (Ni,Co,Mn,V)_(2.1) Alloy, Ming-Fen Wen, Yu-Chun Zhai, Lian Chen, Min Tong, Hua Zhen, Rong-Jun Ma

Journal of Electrochemistry

The microstructure and electrochemical properties of Zr 0.9 Ti 0.1 (Ni,Co,Mn,V) 2.1 alloys prepared by both the melt_spinning method and the conventional induction melting were investigated. XRD studies show that Zr 0.9 Ti 0.1 (Ni,Co,Mn,V) 2.1 alloys at as_cast,melt_spinning and annealing are all face center cubic structure with C15 laves phase, the higher the melt_spinning rate, the more the amorphous content. The electrochemical measurements show that melt_spinning alloys have better active behavior, low discharge capacity(<280 mAh/g); but after annealed, the alloys are activated completely with 30 cycles, the capacities about 340 mAh/g are higher than those of as_cast and melt_spinning alloys;the annealec alloys have a better cycle stability than that of as_cast alloy, and the higher the melt_spinning rate is, the more stable the alloy becomes; at 300 mAh/g current density, the capacity of annealed 40 m/s alloy is up to 85% of the maximum capacity after 800 cycles, the capacity decay rate is about 6.9%.
