Mass Evacuation Effects On Transportation: A Comparative Analysis, Emily M. Jannace Jul 2019

Mass Evacuation Effects On Transportation: A Comparative Analysis, Emily M. Jannace

Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal

Mass evacuations have changed greatly in the past two decades. Evacuations such as Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina, Florida during Hurricane Irma, and New York during the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, Hurricane Sandy, and Hurricane Irene have had significant impacts on future mass evacuations in terms of transportation. This paper takes these methods and analyzes the best approach in given situations based on volume capacity, impact, and cost to make recommendations that can be used by the three previously mention municipalities. With so many different techniques available, it is important to choose the one that moves the most people out of harm’s …

A Method For Generating Random Vibration Using Acceleration Kurtosis And Velocity Kurtosis, Daichi Nakai, Katsuhiko Saito Jun 2019

A Method For Generating Random Vibration Using Acceleration Kurtosis And Velocity Kurtosis, Daichi Nakai, Katsuhiko Saito

Journal of Applied Packaging Research

Random vibration tests for packaging are conducted to confirm safety during shipping by truck. However, there is a difference between the traditional random vibration tests and the real vibrations on the truck bed. One reason for this difference is the shock caused by road roughness. Hence, many studies have been conducted to improve random vibration testing. In these studies, the root mean square, power spectral density, kurtosis, and probability density of acceleration are considered. In this study, we show that the kurtosis and probability density of velocity are also important factors for such tests and propose a new method for …

Mapping Of Bruise Of Oil Palm Fresh Fruit Bunch During Loading And Transportation From Field To Mill, Andreas Wahyu Krisdiarto Aug 2018

Mapping Of Bruise Of Oil Palm Fresh Fruit Bunch During Loading And Transportation From Field To Mill, Andreas Wahyu Krisdiarto

Makara Journal of Technology

Fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) are used as raw materials for palm oil, and their transport from a field is a critical step to maintain their quality. Fruit integrity should be maintained so the mill can efficiently obtain palm oil with less than 5% free fatty acid content. Physical treatments for FFBs during loading to truck bins and transport may cause physical injuries. This research aimed to map fruit bruises. The map can be used as a basis in managing transport of FFBs. Physical injuries were assessed by bruise index (BI), which was calculated by measuring the bruise area and weight …

Effects Of Transportation Hazards On High Barrier Flexible Packaging Films, Kyle Dunno Dec 2016

Effects Of Transportation Hazards On High Barrier Flexible Packaging Films, Kyle Dunno

Journal of Applied Packaging Research

Two flexible food packaging barrier material film structures were employed for this research study to evaluate the effects of over-the-road truck transport. The films containing different barrier materials, ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) or aluminum oxide (AlOx), were selected based on their abundant use within the flexible food packaging arena. Pouches were formed and filled with tomato paste before being thermally processed then palletized for shipment. Pouches were shipped over-the-road via truck transport a distance of 2,500 miles. After transport, the oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of the pouches located on the bottom and top layers of the palletized loads were obtained and …

Mems Based Tracking Devices For Measuring Distribution Hazards On The Product And Package, Changfeng Ge, Tom Oh, Daniel Johnson, Anthonio Mondragon, Kai Lei Apr 2016

Mems Based Tracking Devices For Measuring Distribution Hazards On The Product And Package, Changfeng Ge, Tom Oh, Daniel Johnson, Anthonio Mondragon, Kai Lei

Journal of Applied Packaging Research

This paper introduces two microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) based working data logger prototypes and the cloud based data analysis system that were trademarked and patented as Pak-TrackTM-I and Pak-TrackTM-II. The Pak-TrackTM-I is designed to wirelessly record and report information in real time about individually packaged products during transit. The system allows the user to immediately view the data with a Global Positioning System (GPS) location via a secured website or Android tablet or smart phone. The Pak-TrackTM-II is a standalone device that stores all measurements on internal memory without communicating over a network. …

Development Of The Soekarno–Hatta International Airport Rail Link Project Using The Value Engineering Method: Creating Value For Money, Mohammed Ali Berawi, Bambang Susantono, Suyono Dikun, Tommy Ilyas, Herawati Zetha Rahman, Abdur Rohim Boy Berawi, Teuku Yuri Zagloel, Perdana Miraj, Jade Sjafrecia Petroceany Dec 2014

Development Of The Soekarno–Hatta International Airport Rail Link Project Using The Value Engineering Method: Creating Value For Money, Mohammed Ali Berawi, Bambang Susantono, Suyono Dikun, Tommy Ilyas, Herawati Zetha Rahman, Abdur Rohim Boy Berawi, Teuku Yuri Zagloel, Perdana Miraj, Jade Sjafrecia Petroceany

Makara Journal of Technology

Soekarno–Hatta Airport is the main gateway for international flights to Greater Jakarta. Its accessibility depends on the inter-city and Sedyatmo toll roads, which causes congestion in peak hours, leading to uncertainty about travel times. The Soekarno–Hatta International Airport Rail Link (SHIARL) is proposed as an alternative mass transportation project, which is expected to provide accessibility and mobility for people and goods to and from the airport. Previously, the project was unattractive to private investors as it was technically and financially unfeasible. Therefore, this research aims to improve the feasibility of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Rail Link (SHIARL) by using a …

Comparison Of Optimization Techniques In Large Scale Transportation Problems, Tapojit Kumar Aug 2014

Comparison Of Optimization Techniques In Large Scale Transportation Problems, Tapojit Kumar

Journal of Undergraduate Research at Minnesota State University, Mankato

The Transportation Problem is a classic Operations Research problem where the objective is to determine the schedule for transporting goods from source to destination in a way that minimizes the shipping cost while satisfying supply and demand constraints. Although it can be solved as a Linear Programming problem, other methods exist. Linear Programming makes use of the Simplex Method, an algorithm invented to solve a linear program by progressing from one extreme point of the feasible polyhedron to an adjacent one. The algorithm contains tactics like pricing and pivoting. For a Transportation Problem, a simplified version of the regular Simplex …

Studying The Value Of Information Sharing In E-Business Supply Chain Management, Aryya Gangopadhyay, Zhensen Huang Jan 2004

Studying The Value Of Information Sharing In E-Business Supply Chain Management, Aryya Gangopadhyay, Zhensen Huang

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

The supply chain management of goods and services involves multiple trading partners such as raw-material suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Every one of these trading partners need to determine their requirements, in terms of merchandise, and match them against availability, pricing, and cost of transportation. At every step of the supply chain economics information retrieval is a crucial and recurring process. In this paper we study information sharing as a strategy for improved decision making that can increase the profitability of the entire supply chain. We describe various different models for information sharing and illustrate the benefits of information sharing …
