Optimization Of An Off-Grid Pv/Biogas Hybrid Energy System For Electrification: A Case Study In A Rural Area In Egypt, Ibrahim A. Elzahy, Ahmed Refaat, Samir Dawoud
Journal of Engineering Research
The increasing demand for energy in remote or rural areas, coupled with the environmental benefits and cost-effectiveness of renewable energy sources, has led to a growing interest in off-grid energy systems. This paper proposes an optimized off-grid energy system to supply energy demand for a village and a desalination reverse osmosis water plant (RO) in Shalateen, Egypt, using a combination of photovoltaic (PV) and biomass technologies. To achieve minimizing Loss of Power Supply Probability (LPSP) and Total Net Present Cost (TNPC), two decision variables are optimized using the Harmony Search algorithm implemented in MATLAB. The reliability of a designed system …
Techno-Economic Feasibility Of Polyhydroxybutyrate (Phb) Production From Corn Stover, Jey-R Ventura, Ruby Lynn Ventura
Techno-Economic Feasibility Of Polyhydroxybutyrate (Phb) Production From Corn Stover, Jey-R Ventura, Ruby Lynn Ventura
The Philippine Agricultural Scientist
This research evaluated the techno-economic feasibility of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) production using corn stover as a substrate for the fermentation process. The target PHB plant production was set at 1000 t PHB per yr, with a daily production of about 3 t PHB. The required corn stover biomass was around 12 000 t per yr. The economic analysis of this study suggested that 91.13 M US$ is needed to put up the targeted plant production capacity, with 94% of the total investment to be allotted to the direct fixed capital cost. Annual operating cost was rated at 4.71 M US$ per …
Results Of Proximate Analysis Of Energy Use Of Municipal Solid Waste, N.N. Abduganiev
Results Of Proximate Analysis Of Energy Use Of Municipal Solid Waste, N.N. Abduganiev
Irrigation and Melioration
In the modern industrialized world, various raw materials are processed and used for human consumption. While some of the raw materials are converted into the desired product, the rest is thrown into the environment as waste. It is known that solid waste is a type of biomass that is formed in the course of human life. The article presents the results of a preliminary analysis of studies on the use of solid waste energy in the Urta-Chirchik district of the Tashkent region. Sorting results showed that the total volume of municipal solid waste in the district consists mainly of wood …

Mathematical Model Of The Level Processing Of Organic Wastes On Methanogenesis Mixing Process, Shavkat Imomov, Mansur Sultonov, Akmal Rustamov
Acta of Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent
The article presents the results of the authors' many experiments on organic waste processing in agriculture. The analysis of the existing biogas plants of advanced countries and comparison of the products obtained during the anaerobic treatment of organic agricultural wastes is presented.

Experimental Study Of The Chimney Height Variation Against Double Pots Biomass Stove Performance, Faisal Faisal, Adi Setiawan, Wusnah Wusnah, Khairil Khairil, Luthfi Luthfi, Mona Fajriana
Makara Journal of Technology
This research aims to get optimal chimneys height of double pots biomass stove. Optimal chimneys height needs to provide best performance of the stove. Experimental study was done by varied the chimney heights. Water boiling test as the standard method was used to obtained stove performance for each chimney height variation. The results showed that best performance stove was the one with 1.65 cm chimney height, with thermal efficiency at 37.66%.

Makara Journal of Technology
Calcium oxide-based material is available abundantly and naturally. A potential resource of that material comes from marine mollusk shell such as clams, scallops, mussels, oysters, winkles and nerites. The CaO-based material has exhibited a good performance as the desulfurizer or adsorbent in coal combustion in order to reduce SO2 emission. In this study, pulverized green mussel shell, without calcination, was utilized as the desulfurizer in the briquette produced from a mixture of low rank coal and palm kernel shell (PKS), also known as bio-briquette. The ratio of coal to PKS in the briquette was 90:10 (wt/wt). The influence of green …

Energy And Exergy Analysis Of An Organic Rankine Cycle In A Biomass-Based Forest Products Manufacturing Plant, Muharrem Eyi̇doğan, Fatma Çanka Kiliç, Durmuş Kaya, Mehmet Özkaymak, Volkan Çoban, Selman Çağman
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this study, energy and exergy analysis of an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) unit was carried out at a biomass-based forest products manufacturing plant. The ORC unit is used for the production of electricity and heat, by using thermal oil as a heat source in the plant. The actual data were obtained from the ORC unit during the energy production process. Studies were realized for the energy and exergy analysis of the main components of the ORC unit, which are the evaporator, condenser, turbine, and regenerator, at two different working conditions. The effect of condenser pressure on the energy and …
Place-Based Approaches To Alternative Energy: The Potential For Forest And Grass Biomass For Aroostook County, Jason Johnston, Soraya Cardenas
Place-Based Approaches To Alternative Energy: The Potential For Forest And Grass Biomass For Aroostook County, Jason Johnston, Soraya Cardenas
Maine Policy Review
Teams at the University of Maine Presque Isle and the University of Maine at Forth Kent are engaged in evaluating the potential for forest and grass biomass energy in Aroostook County, funded through Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative. The article discusses how this potential is being evaluated and the possible ways in which expanding grass and wood biomass might benefit farmers and residents of The County. It suggests that using some of Maine’s farmland for fuel might be sustainable with appropriate management and with consideration for potential environmental and socioeconomic drawbacks
