A Combined Protective Scheme For Fault Classification And Identification Of Faulty Section In Series Compensated Transmission Lines, Resul Çöteli̇

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The fault detection process is very difficult in transmission lines with a fixed series capacitor because of the nonlinear behavior of protection device and series-parallel resonance. This paper proposes a new method based on S-transform (ST) and support vector machines (SVMs) for fault classification and identification of a faulty section in a transmission line with a fixed series capacitor placed at the middle of the line. In the proposed method, the fault detection process is carried out by using distinctive features of 3-line signals (line voltages and currents) and zero sequence current. The relevant features of these signals are obtained …

The classification of power quality (PQ) disturbances to improve the PQ is an important issue in utilities and industrial factories. In this paper, an approach to classify PQ disturbances is presented. First, a signal containing one of the PQ disturbances, like sag, swell, flicker, interruption, transient, or harmonics, is evaluated using the proposed approach. Afterwards, S-transform and TT-transform are applied to the signal and an artificial neural network is used to recognize the disturbance using S-transform and TT-transform data, like the variance and mean values of S-transform and TT-transform matrices. The main features of the proposed approach are the real-time …

In this paper, the S-transform is used to discriminate between the internal disturbances and external faults of transformers. The proposed algorithm consists of 2 stages. The internal disturbances and the external faults are distinguished in the first stage. Next, the S-transform is applied to differential currents of faulty phases and the absolute deviation of the S-matrix is calculated. The relay scheme issues a trip signal in the case of an internal fault, according to the absolute deviation of the S-matrix. The scheme is implemented in a MATLAB environment and the inputs are differential currents, derived from EMTP software. In order …
