The Effect Of Today's Residential Electric Consumer On The Planning, Design, And Operation Of Electrical Distribution Systems, James Wilbur Stephens Jan 1956

The Effect Of Today's Residential Electric Consumer On The Planning, Design, And Operation Of Electrical Distribution Systems, James Wilbur Stephens

Professional Degree Theses

"The purpose of this paper shall be primarily to show the present day trends in the use of electricity by the residential consumer and the effect of such trends on the design, planning, and operation of the electric distribution system. System planning related to the electric utility is divided into two classes. The first deals with generation. The second deals with distribution from the various load and transmission centers to the customer. This thesis will deal .primarily with studies related to the latter.

Many utility distribution system problems have been brought about by the rapidly increased demands for residential uses …

A Study Of Gas Porosity In Aluminum Casting Alloys Using Radioactive Hydrogen As A Tracer, Osborne Milton Jan 1956

A Study Of Gas Porosity In Aluminum Casting Alloys Using Radioactive Hydrogen As A Tracer, Osborne Milton

Professional Degree Theses

"A method will be described wherein the absorption of hydrogen by aluminum is evaluated using hydrogen 3 as a tracer element. Results show that hydrogen gas is readily absorbed into the melt when it is injected directly, but is not taken on from the combustion products, that quantities of it are released when the metal freezes, and that the commonly used methods of fluxing with chlorine and nitrogen gas are of value for degassing"--Preface, page iii.

Subsurface Geology Of The Mississippi Embayment Of Southeast Missouri, John Gustave Grohskopf Jan 1956

Subsurface Geology Of The Mississippi Embayment Of Southeast Missouri, John Gustave Grohskopf

Professional Degree Theses

"To the southeast of the Ozark Escarpment all municipal, industrial, and agricultural water supplies of record are obtained by drilled wells from alluvial sands and gravels, unconsolidated sands of the Wilcox and McNairy (Ripley) formations, and at a few towns from consolidated Paleozoic dolomites limestones, and sandstones. The irrigation wells obtain their water supply from the Allluvium. These wells have recorded yields of several thousand g.p.m, and the water, though excessively high in iron, is still satisfactory for the irrigation of crops. Some municipal and industrial supplies are obtained from the Wilcox sands, but the water usually requires iron-removal treatment. …

Calcination Of Missouri Flint, Burley And Diaspore Clays In A Rotary Kiln, Richard Addison Parker Jan 1956

Calcination Of Missouri Flint, Burley And Diaspore Clays In A Rotary Kiln, Richard Addison Parker

Professional Degree Theses

"This thesis will concern itself primarily with the preparation, handling and calcination of Missouri fire clays that are subsequently used as "grog" for manufacture of fire brick. This "grog", i.e., calcined flint, burley or diaspore clay is then mixed with ether clays having plastic qualities to form desired shapes of high temperature refractories, and burned as a final product in tunnel kilns and as required, in “beehive” or periodic kilns. The actual manufacture of fire brick will not be dealt with since it is, in itself, a highly specialized industry. We are immediately concerned with the proper preparation of calcined …

Sanitary Engineering And The Small College, John William Clark Jr. Jan 1956

Sanitary Engineering And The Small College, John William Clark Jr.

Professional Degree Theses

"There is an unprecedented need for sanitary engineers. College students should be informed of the need and of this general field at an early stage in their education so that proper guidance can be given in the selection of electives to those interested.

Colleges must re-appraise their sanitary engineering offering and expand their programs to meet the needs of society.

One of the most difficult jobs facing an expanded sanitary engineering program is securing the students with proper background. Most of the freshmen entering college have some ideas as to what vocation they want to strive toward. This idea of …

Design And Development Of Cantilevered Flexural Pivots For Use In Self-Leveling Surveying Instruments, Rolland Lee Hardy Jan 1956

Design And Development Of Cantilevered Flexural Pivots For Use In Self-Leveling Surveying Instruments, Rolland Lee Hardy

Professional Degree Theses

"Problem: The problem to be covered in this dissertation is broadly stated in its title, namely, the design and development of cantilevered flexural pivots for use in self-leveling surveying instruments. For clarification, the definitions of the significant phrases in the title which may be completely new or unknown to the reader are covered in this introduction. Because the dissertation actually covers a series of problems, each will be defined more specifically as they are covered in the discussion"--Introduction, page 1.
