Pitting Behaviors Of Passivated And Trans-Passivated 304 Stainless Steel, Jing Shen, Zi-Ming Wang, Da-Jiang Zheng, Guang-Ling Song

Journal of Electrochemistry

In order to further understand the passivation and trans-passivation behaviors of 304 stainless steels, the samples were pretreated under different polarization potentials and their corrosion behaviors were investigated. It was found that the pitting potential of the untreated sample was the same as that of the sample treated with 1.1 V trans-passivation potential, while the pitting potential of the sample treated with 0.5 V passivation treatment was the highest. This observation was further verified by the SKP results. According to SEM observations, the surface of the untreated sample preserved a polishing morphology, while the surface of the 0.5 V passivation …

Passivation Behavior Of Aluminum Alloy During Electrochemical Machining And Its Effects On The Machining Performance, Li-Min Jiang, Wen-Bo Deng, Jun-Long Ying

Journal of Electrochemistry

The passivation behavior of aluminum alloy during electrochemical machining was investigated and discussed. The effects of processing voltage, current density, space of electrodes and electrolyte composition on electrochemical machining performance were explored. The results indicate that the electrochemical machining aluminum alloy in the composite electrolyte system containing NaNO3 and NaF existed passivation phenomenon. Passivation action decreaseed the current efficiency and made it varied greatly with the current density. Also the passivation shifted the interspace characteristic curve of electrode notably to a negative direction. There was not passivation phenomenon in the composite electrolyte system containing the same concentrations of NaCl …

Passivation Behaviors Of Mo,W Electrodes In Mgcl_2-Kcl-Nacl-Cacl_2 Molten Salt For Electrolysis Of Magnesium, Chen Ye, Ye Ke

Journal of Electrochemistry

The discharge process and passivation behaviors of Mg(Ⅱ) on cathode(Mo、W) in MgCl2-KCl-NaCl-CaCl2 molten salt system had been investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The composition of molten salt was MgCl(10%)+CaCl(20%)+NaCl(60%)+KCl(10%)(by mass) and the temperature of electrolysis was 725 ℃.The deposition potential of Mo was 37 mV more negative than that of W,while the peak current was sharper than Mo according to the voltammograms at 0.05 V/s,indicating that the passivation on Mo cathode is easier than W.The formation of MgO impurities during the electrolysis could cause the cathode passiration. However, the reversibility on the discharge reaction of W cathode was better than …

Electrochemical Behavior Of Zinc Alloy Anode In Ca(Oh)_2 Solutions Of Different Ph, Peng-Ying Ren, Ji-Quan He

Journal of Electrochemistry

The polarization curves of zinc alloy anodes in Ca(OH)2 solutions have been measured by potentiodynamic method, and the composition of corrosion products were examined by X-ray-diffraction(XRD).The experimental results indicated that not only the electrochemical behavior of zinc alloy anodes were absolutely different in every alkaline solutions, but also many electrochemical parameters were determined, such as zero current potential(E0),the density of corrosion current(icorr),passive current density(ip),breakdown potential(Eb),and so on.There were three zero current potential when zinc alloy anodes in some Ca(OH)2 solutions which made passive state unstable. The graphs of E-pH about zinc alloy anodes dipped in different Ca(OH)2 solutions were drawn, and compared with the potential-pH …

Electrochemical Behavor Of Zinc-Indium Alloy Electrodes In Concentrated Alkaline Solution, Zhi-Lin Wang, Xiao-Ge Zhang, Rong-Gui Du, Chang-Jian Lin

Journal of Electrochemistry

The electrochemical behavior of zinc-indium alloy electrodes in 35%KOH solutions has been investigated by electrochemical methods including the potentiodynamic polarization and discharge measurements under constant current density. The results indicate that the anodic current density and passive current density increase after the indium addition. The discharge measurement shows that the addition of indium shortens the time to passive state for the Zn alloy compared to pure zinc at a large discharge conditions, that is the addition of indium may enhance the electrochemical activity of Zn alloy electrodes. It is found that the anodic dissolution of zinc-indium alloy electrodes in the concentrated KOH solution occurs …

Study On Composite Organic Inhibitor Of Zinc Electrode In Alkaline Solutions, Xue-Tao Bu, Guang-Chuan Liang, Cui Li

Journal of Electrochemistry

The synergetic influence of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS) with Tween-20(Tween) on zinc electrode was studied by polarization experiment, surface tension test, discharge test and SEM.It is found that the composite inhibitor ST has a much higher efficiency. The addition of Tween reduced the critical micell concentration of SDBS on zinc electrode remarkably and the distribution of adsorption became more homogeneous.ST inhibits corrosion of zinc electrode and improves discharge capacity of the whole battery.Through electrochemical morphological observation of anodic passivation behaviors of zinc electrode, the absorption of ST on electrode surface makes discharged production much smaller and keeps crude porous structure intact.Passivation of zinc electrode …

Effect Of Chloride Ions On The Corrosion Behavior Of Reinforcing Steel In Simulated Concrete Pore Solutions, Yu Liu, Rong-Gui Du Aug 2005

Effect Of Chloride Ions On The Corrosion Behavior Of Reinforcing Steel In Simulated Concrete Pore Solutions, Yu Liu, Rong-Gui Du

Journal of Electrochemistry

The potentiodynamic anodic polarization was used to study the corrosion behavior of the reinforcing steel in simulated concrete pore solutions with different pH and chloride ion concentrations. The effect of chloride ions on passivity breakdown of the steel was examined by measuring the breaking potentials of reinforcing steel, and the critical chloride concentrations for depassivation were found in simulated concrete pore solutions at pH 12.50 and pH 12.00.
