Microstuctural Analysis Of Additively Manufactured 308l Stainless Steel Produced By Plasma Arc Welding, Ryan Foley

Graduate Theses & Non-Theses

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a technique to produce special products by depositing layers of material in a specific pattern. Wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is an AM technique that uses welding equipment that has been modified and automated to deposit layers of welding wire. Characterization of specimens produced by WAAM method is required to optimize the process parameters. This research focuses on the microstructure characterization of 308L stainless steel samples produced by a novel WAAM technique known as Plasma Arc Weld Print 3D (PP3D). PP3D consists of multiple plasma arc torches that can deposit material in two modes of …

3d Printing Of 316l Stainless Steel And Its Effect On Microstructure And Mechanical Properties, Rawn Penn Oct 2017

3d Printing Of 316l Stainless Steel And Its Effect On Microstructure And Mechanical Properties, Rawn Penn

Graduate Theses & Non-Theses

Laser powder bed fusion or 3D printing is a potential candidate for net shape forming and manufacturing complex shapes. Understanding of how various parameters affect build quality is necessary. Specimens were made from 316L stainless steel at 0°, 30°, 60°, and 90° angles measured from the build plate. Three tensile and four fatigue specimens at each angle were produced. Fracture morphology investigation was performed to determine the fracture mode of specimens at each build angle. Microstructural analysis was performed on one of each orientation. The average grain size of the samples was marginally influenced by the build angle orientation. Tensile …

Slm Processing-Microstructure-Mechanical Property Correlation In An Aluminum Alloy Produced By Additive Manufacturing, Bryce Abstetar Oct 2016

Slm Processing-Microstructure-Mechanical Property Correlation In An Aluminum Alloy Produced By Additive Manufacturing, Bryce Abstetar

Graduate Theses & Non-Theses

Additive manufacturing has become a highly researched topic in recent years all over the world. The current research evaluates the merits of additive manufacturing based on the mechanical, microstructural, and fracture properties of additive manufactured AlSi10Mg test specimens. The additive manufactured build plates consisted of tensile and fatigue test specimens. They were printed in the 0°, 30°, 60°, and 90° orientations relative to the build platform. Tensile and dynamic fatigue tests were conducted followed by microstructural characterization and fracture analysis. A wrought 6061 T6 aluminum alloy was also tested for comparison. Tensile tests revealed similar ultimate tensile strengths for all …
