H∞ Delayed Tracking Protocol Design Of Nonlinear Singular Multi-Agent Systems Under Markovian Switching Topology, Xiangli Jiang, Guihua Xia, Zhiguang Feng, Zhengyi Jiang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

© 2020 Elsevier Inc. The consensus tracking of singular multi-agent systems (MASs) with Lipschitz-type nonlinearities and exogenous disturbances is researched in this paper. Governed by a Markov chain, the network interaction randomly switches in a directed graph set, where the directed spanning tree is not contained in each graph while exists in the union rooting at the leader node. By utilizing a collection of in-neighbors’ information that involves communication delay, the intention is to design a protocol such that the resultant consensus error system is stochastic admissible with an H∞ disturbance attenuation level. Based on algebraic graph theory, stochastic admissibility …

Given the limited capacity of available railway tracks in Australia to sustain increasingly faster and heavier trains, the development of innovative and sustainable ballasted tracks is essential for Australian transport infrastructure. Upon repeated train loading, ballast aggregates become degraded and fouled owing to the intrusion of external fines either from the subbase or surface, which decreases track drainage potentially leading to track instability. This paper reviews some advancements in testing methodologies and design implications of ballasted tracks stabilized with artificial inclusions, including geocomposites, energy absorbing rubber mats and end-of-life tires. Measured test data shows that the use of these waste …

Design And Optimization Of A Novel Dual-Port Linear Generator For Oceanic Wave Energy Conversion, Omar Farrok, Md Rabiul Islam, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Danny Sutanto, Jianguo Zhu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

All the existing linear generators used for oceanic wave energy conversions are basically a single-port linear electrical generators (SPLEGs). The conventional SPLEG transfers electrical power to the load/grid discontinuously due to its working principle and the intermittent nature of oceanic waves. This paper proposes a new dual-port linear electrical generator (DPLEG) topology, which is capable to transfer electrical power with an adequate voltage even at zero vertical velocity of the oceanic wave. The analysis shows that the efficiency and the performance of the DPLEG depend greatly on the stator tooth design. For this reason, the proposed DPLEG is optimized using …

A Disturbance Observer-Based Robust Controller Design For Systems With Right Half Plane Zeros And Poles, Emre Sariyildiz, Ilhan Mutlu, Rahim Mutlu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

This paper analytically derives the bandwidth limitations of Disturbance Observer (DOB) when plants have Right Half Plane (RHP) zero(s) and pole(s). If the plant is non-minimum phase, then the bandwidth of DOB should be set at a lower value than its upper bound to improve the robust stability and performance. If the plant is unstable, then the bandwidth of DOB should be set at a higher value than its lower bound to achieve the robust stability. The upper and lower bounds are analytically derived by using Poisson integral formula. It is shown that the bandwidth limitation of DOB is directly …

A Robust Force Controller Design For Series Elastic Actuators, Emre Sariyildiz, Haoyong Yu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

A Series Elastic Actuator (SEA) is designed by placing a passive compliant element between a conventional stiff actuator and link. The intrinsically compliant mechanical structure provides several superiorities, e.g., safety, energy efficiency, high force fidelity, low cost force measurement, high transparency, etc., in advanced robot applications, such as humanoids, quadrupeds and exoskeletons. However, the motion control problem of an SEA is more complicated than that of a conventional stiff actuator due to its higher order dynamics. This paper proposes a novel Active Disturbance Rejection (ADR) based robust force controller for SEAs by combining Differential Flatness (DF) and Disturbance Observer (DOb) …
