Tapered Plastic Optical Fiber Coated With Al-Doped Zno Nanostructures For Detecting Relative Humidity Feb 2015

Tapered Plastic Optical Fiber Coated With Al-Doped Zno Nanostructures For Detecting Relative Humidity

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

A relative humidity (RH) sensor is demonstrated using a tapered plastic optical fiber (POF) that is coated with Al-doped ZnO nanostructures. A simple etching method was used to fabricate the tapered POF that operates based on intensity modulation technique. The tapered fiber was then coated with Al-doped ZnO nanostructures using sol-gel immersion method with different mol% of Al nitrate that acts as a dopant. The 1 mol% of Al nitrate that used in the synthesis process exhibited better performance compared with the other doping concentrations. Then, results obtained for both undoped ZnO and 1 mol% of Al-doped ZnO were compared …

Gas Sensing Properties Of Zinc Stannate (Zn2sno4) Nanowires Prepared By Carbon, Assisted Thermal Evaporation Process Jan 2015

Gas Sensing Properties Of Zinc Stannate (Zn2sno4) Nanowires Prepared By Carbon, Assisted Thermal Evaporation Process

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Zn2SnO4 nanowires are successfully synthesized by a carbon assisted thermal evaporation process with the help of a gold catalyst under ambient pressure. The as-synthesized nanowires are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The XRD patterns and elemental mapping via TEM-EDS clearly indicate that the nanowires are Zn2SnO4 with face centered spinel structure. HRTEM image confirms that Zn2SnO4 nanowires are single crystalline with an interplanar spacing of 0.26 nm, which is ascribed to the d-spacing of (3 1 1) planes of Zn2SnO4. The optimum …

Integration Of Biosensors Based On Microfluidic: A Review

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Purpose - Biotechnology is closely associated to microfluidics. During the last decade, designs of microfluidic devices such as geometries and scales have been modified and improved according to the applications for better performance. Numerous sensor technologies existing in the industry has potential use for clinical applications. Fabrication techniques of microfluidics initially rooted from the electromechanical systems (EMS) technology. Design/methodology/approach - In this review, we emphasized on the most available manufacture approaches to fabricate microchannels, their applications and the properties which make them unique components in biological studies. Findings - Major fundamental and technological advances demonstrate the enhancing of capabilities and …
