The effects of controlled temperature variation in the range of 10–45 °C were assessed in a lab-scale MBR that treated synthetic municipal wastewater spiked with selected micropollutants. The effects were evaluated with respect to total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) removal, micropollutant removal, sludge growth, level of soluble microbial products (SMPs) in the mixed liquor and membrane fouling. Overall, the temperature shifts caused high variation in the TOC and TN levels in the reactor supernatant, however that in membrane-permeate was relatively more stable, substantiating the robustness of the MBR process. In China, thin coal seam are rich in resources and complex in conditions, however, the characteristics such as narrow mining space, the low level of mechanised technology, bad working environment and the high cost of mining, directly restrict the development of mining safety and high-efficiency. In thin coal seams with hard gangue which contains concretions of pyrite, LS-DYNA is applied to calculate the rational blasting parameters and carry out the deep-hole pre-splitting blasting technology, the hard gangue is fractured effectively, hence advancing the productivity of thin coal seam mining. A new idea is investigated in this study to reduce the cover spalling of high-strength concrete columns: installing relatively cheap materials such as household fly screen and wire mesh in the formwork of RC columns. Three materials were chosen in this study: fiberglass fly mesh (FGFM), standard aluminum fly mesh (SAFM), and 12:7 x 12:7 galvanized steel wire mesh (S12.7 WM). A total of 16 cylindricalspecimens with a length of 925 mm and a diameter of 205 mm were cast and tested under concentric, eccentric, and pure bending loading. This study is an attempt to investigate the effectiveness of a prefabricated vertical drain (PVD) installed in remoulded soft clay, where a large-scale cyclic triaxial process simulation rig was employed to simulate cyclic loading representing a track environment. The experimental data show that PVD successfully prevents excessive accumulation of pore water pressure during cyclic loading, and their dissipation continues to occur after the load is removed. The findings of this study have direct significance to rail track environments, e.g. in coastal Australia, where PVD installation beneath rail tracks constructed on low-lying estuarine soils has been recently adopted.

In this study, an investigation is carried out to analyse the earthquake induced pounding be-tween two insufficiently separated base isolated buildings considering the inelastic behaviour of the struc-tures’ response. The buildings are modelled as a four-story and a three-story system to simulate the structural behaviour. The resulting systems of second order constant coefficient equations are reformulated as a system of first order ordinary differential equations and solved using the ordinary differential equation solver of MATLAB. This study reveals for the first time that near-anoxic conditions (dissolved oxygen, DO - 0.5 mg/L) can be a favorable operating regime for the removal of the persistent micropollutant carbamazepine by MBR treatment. The removal efficiencies of carbamazepine and sulfamethoxazole by an MBR were systematically examined and compared under near-anoxic (DO'" 0.5 mg/L) and aerobic (DO> 2 mg/L) conditions. Preliminary batch tests confirmed that sulfamethoxazole is amenable to both aerobic and anoxic biotransformation. However, carbamazepine-a known persistent compound-showed degradation only under an anoxic environment. This study investigates the effect of temperature on the behaviour of concrete cylinders wrapped with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The study used nine concrete cylinders in three groups; the first group was exposed to room temperature of approximately 20ºC, the second group was exposed to a cyclic temperature with a temperature range of 20ºC to 70ºC, and the third group was exposed to a prolonged temperature of 70ºC.
