The superconducting phase diagrams have been established by the measurements of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and thermopower in cobalt-doped LFeAsO (L=La and Sm) systems. It is shown that the antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave order in the parent compounds is rapidly suppressed by Co doping, and superconductivity emerges at x=0.025 and 0.05 in LaFe1−xCoxAsO and SmFe1−xCoxAsO, respectively. The Tc(x) curves of both systems are domelike, with a maximum Tc of 13 K at x=0.075 in LaFe1−xCoxAsO and 17.2 K at x=0.1 in SmFe1−xCoxAsO. Thermopower measurement shows dominant electron-type transport for the Co-doped samples, in accordance with itinerant character of Co 3d electrons. We …

Rail tracks are often placed on ballast which offers the desirable resiliency to cyclic loads. However ballasted beds need periodic maintenance due to deformation and degradation associated with breakage and fouling. A proper understanding of load transfer mechanisms and their effect on ballast breakage are prerequisites for minimizing maintenance costs. Recycled ballast is a cheaper and environmentally viable option but its strength characteristics need to be investigated beforehand. This paper demonstrates the analytical, numerical and laboratory investigations carried out to investigate the geotechnical behavior of ballast, including shear strength, ballast breakage, and confining pressure. The potential use of geosynthetics for …

A new coupling numerical algorithm has been developed to integrate Finite Difference Method (FDM) with Boundary Element Method (BEM) to analyze shear performance of oil film by iteratively solving a series of equations such as the film flow velocity and shear stress equations for contact bodies in bearing system. With consideration of the variations of viscosity and density with pressure and temperature, the effects of shear stress of oil film layers on lubrication performance of contact surfaces under different loadcases were discussed. Moreover, Germany-made Anton Paar MRD (Magnetic Rheologic Device) was used to determine the relationship between the viscosity and …
