Workflow of electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) common-mode (CM) filter design of edge-coupled differential pairs on a printed circuit board (PCB) and sensitivity of its characteristics to variations of geometrical and material parameters are discussed. A number of simple 20-GHz EBG CM notch filters for differential strip line pairs are designed using full-wave numerical electromagnetic modeling, fabricating, and testing. The cases of one and two strip line differential pairs crossing the EBG patches are considered. Nowdays the fast and increased demand for bandwidth in the telecommunication world translates into the design of complex boards exchanging data at high bit rate in reduced design cycle. Sometimes it is impossible to spent time in setting pre-layout simulations, because they are not compatible with the design time schedule. In this scenario it is better to design the boards using experience and then make simulations in conjunction with measurements, using customized numerical tools which don't need complex models.

A method for simulating the eye pattern of high-speed digital signals propagated on printed circuit boards using multiconductor transmission-line modeling is proposed in this paper. The approach takes into account the frequency-dependent properties of the dielectric materials of the board and of the conductors. The validation is performed by comparing the modeling with measurements taken from the literature, and directly performed on test boards specially design for this study.

A novel real-time discrete-event admission control (AC) scheme for high-speed networks is proposed with the aim of attaining a desired quality of service (QoS) and high network utilization. The AC uses the available capacity from a novel adaptive bandwidth estimation scheme, a congestion indicator derived from a congestion controller, peak bit/cell rate (PBR/PCR) estimate from new sources, along with the desired QoS metrics, and makes decisions whether to 'admit' or 'reject' new sources. Correlative Tracking Of Pseudo-Noise Codes Using A Phase Shifted Reference, Kurt Louis Kosbar, Hettiachchi Upul Gunawardana

This work investigates a first-order correlation loop for tracking pseudo-noise (PN) codes. The local reference is produced by a PN sequence generator in series with a Hilbert transform filter. The tracking performance of this non-linear loop is compared with conventional early-late delay-lock loops (ELDLL). Using a conservative definition of bandwidth, the new loop was found to be superior at moderate to low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). Another advantage of the new structure is that it has a very large (arguably infinite) lock range.

A series-fed, circularly polarized array of annular sector radiating-line elements that operates over a ground plane and has a low profile is presented. Pattern shaping can be achieved through control of the fraction of the incident power that is radiated by each element. This can be accomplished over a wide range by a simple adjustment in the geometry of each element. A synthesis technique is given, and experimental results are presented. The array is demonstrated to have a high return loss (good impedance match) and a low axial ratio

A technique is presented for improving the performance of low-profile, circularly polarized (CP) radiating-line antennas. The essential elements of the technique pertain to establishing a single traveling wave on an annular sector of conducting strip that is positioned parallel and close to a large conducting surface. The antenna is named the annular sector, radiating-line (ANSERLIN) antenna. Using this technique, the impedance bandwidth becomes so large that it no longer has any bearing on the operating bandwidth. The feasibility of designing a wideband circular polarized (CP) array of series-fed elements using the element geometry to control the array excitation has been demonstrated. The simple array of wideband, low-profile CP elements requires no phase-shifters and only sufficient feed lines for the interconnection of the elements in a series-fed array. A complicated network is not required to obtain the excitation coefficients for a specified design. Rather, the excitation coefficients can be realized by utilizing the geometric parameters of the individual elements.
